Panzerlang Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 In current TF/ATAG CloD: http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9838
johncage Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 are you serious? those flame effects are standard for nearly every sim out there.
Bando Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Looks awesome to me. I've been flying sims (well, sims...) since F117. I've never seen it before.
FuriousMeow Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 (edited) It actually does look pretty basic. The entire plane enveloped in flames, with the typical flaming fuselage. It works if it's the gas tank and the entire rear fuselage is a giant camp fire, but fire comes from certain areas. So it should be less bulbous and more concentrated starting points flaming out from exit holes for the gas tank, or out of the exhaust for the engine, or from the gas lines - but what is seen here truly isn't much different from all other attempts at flaming aircraft. Yes the flames in the smoke that come and go are different/interesting, perhaps that is what everyone is interested in?, but the rest is as unique as finding a car on the road these days. FuriousMeow Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Same bulbous flame effect, same location from the mid section of the fuselage. LOL, indeed. 1
johncage Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) Got any video to back up that claim? I've never seen flame (in another game) that also appears up the smoke column and I haven't been going around with my eyes closed. Still, I have noticed that in almost every thread you contribute in you are our resident expert (perhaps I'm mixing up expert with naysayer?) so I'm looking forward to learning which other sims model the same effect. il2 series uses pretty much the same flame effect. sprites stacked together forming a tapered tube. lock on to dcs series uses the same technique all of the janes sims ever since usaf. jane's f-15 actually has flame effects that are really close to the one shown in the video. probably more. it's a basic technique. i also want to echo what furios mew said though, it's probably not the technique, but rather the way it's done. flame envelops the entire plane, you can see the sprites clipping through the fuselage. a more sophisticated particle system would probably give more detailed looking and behaving flames, but the artist still has to put it in the right places and make sure it makes sense. Reflected Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 It doesn't appeal to me neither...I much prefer the BoS effect.
Feathered_IV Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Looks pretty standard to me too. A sort of bulbous flame texture spawning outside the aircraft. It's certainly adequate, but I don't find it especially awe inspiring.
Finkeren Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 However, it does add one thing that adds to the impression of a real fuel fire, the occational extra spurt of flames. BoS does this as well, but only with the smoke.
Bearcat Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 It looks good.. but I think the new smoke is too dark..
