A glaring error ?

Nothing new, nothing radical.

I admit it, it was while reading Biggles that it came to mind,  so it must be pukka (good) info. Every other sentence seems to mention that big glowing orb.  Is it"s impact really as pronounced in the game ?

The sun, in the sim, isn't bad, and I appreciate mileage might vary depending on viewing display (mine is VR), but might it be improved ?  Might the Suns  glare be more in yer face, when looking in that direction ?  I"'ll readily admit that it has some value, as it stands, but I rarelly think I gain any great advantage when trying to ambush, or stalk, with the sun behind me and It seems I seldom find myself being surprised from that particular quarter.

Could it be improved ?

Could it it be done as a mod ?

 Would it be desirable ?

Would being UP sun encourage people to fly higher, in the Suns glare (depending on time of day) ?

There is a pilots arm available, holding a weapon (flare gun/ pistol), one assumes it would be easy enough to use a modified outstretched hand to shield the sun from the pilots eyes.

Yeah it's not bright enough, but if it was, we'd go blind looking at it.

Well you would need a monitor with a kabillion bits of brightness so...

Just stare at the sun for a while.  That should help simulate this issue for you.

So this thread is just a hypothetical?

Kidding aside, I frequently use the canopy frame to block the sun.  It would be nice to be able to use your "hand", but I understand why that isn't a priority for the devs.

If it was an all pervading part of the actual air war, according to Biggles ?, then I can't imagine why it wouldn't be a priority for the Dev's.  If being UP in the sun conveyed a game changing tactical advantage (obviously no icons), as it appears to have been during the Great War, then the result would be a game of leapfrog as everyone tried to steal a trick on the opposition.

Actually zooming into the sun  reduce it's glare intensively and one can spot Boche hiding there ;)

So you’re complaining that the sun isn’t enough of a problem?  I would disagree with that.  It’s almost impossible to see someone if you’re looking into the sun in this game.  It’s much tougher than in RoF.

Yeah I'd agree with BSR. Sun is definitely way better here and more than adequate to serve the purpose of hiding the attack. The hand thing is a neat idea. I mean, they already got the hand modeled to a flare gun. How hard could it be to model the arm and hand up? They already do the waving stuff.

And now from the other side of this coin. When you follow Dicta Boelcke and position yourself in such a way that you have the sun behind your back when performing an attack, it actually makes you blind. Because there's no shadow your body/head would cast, the sun glares directly on the windshield in front of you. And it's so bad you can not see practically anything in front of the windshield. Better use one of those iron gunsights, so the damn windshield doesn't get in the way.

Mind you, the hand itself doesn't cast any shadow as well. So if they actually do anything about it, which I doubt,  I would like to have both sides of the coin addressed.

Is part of the problem the fact that "zooming" also reduces the glare ?
