kstab Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 Hello to everyone, i have been setting up my new pc and i would like opinions on which cpu should i choose. My set up so far is: DELL u2718q 3840*2160 ASUS Prime z390-A Trident Z 16GB (2*8GB) DDR4-4266MHZ GeForce RTX 2080 Super Samsung 970 Plus 500GB EVO BeQuiet 1000w BeQuiet Dark Rock 4 Should i choose i9 9900ks or the i9 9900kf as i plan on 4k gaming? Any opinion would be greatly appreciated.
Jaws2002 Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 I think the KS is the better option, because it has higher TDP and the chips are cherry picked out of a large pool of 9900k's. The KS may give you a bit more performance out of the box. However, the CPU cooler may need to be replaced to see any difference and keep this beasts cool. Anyway, you need to make up your mind quick, because the 9900ks will only be available until the end of next month, IF the supply lasts that long. 1
kstab Posted November 9, 2019 Author Posted November 9, 2019 (edited) Reading the first reviews and benchmarks i realised that the difference between the two is 3-5% (maybe even smaller) in 4k resolutions. Do you believe it might be higher in Il-2? As i have understood Il-2 is largely depending οn single core performance. Edited November 9, 2019 by kstab
jarg1 Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 If you are planning on overclocking the KS has a better shot at the higher frequencies. But you are correct that the difference isn't significant.

Il-2 isn't that demanding in terms of CPU performance to run at 60 Hz on a monitor. The small increase in frequency from the 9900KS will rarely yield noticeable improvements. This CPU performance that everybody talks about is much more important in VR due to the higher refresh rates and increased rendering overhead. Edited November 10, 2019 by Mitthrawnuruodo
