Missions and future updates (compatibility)

After investing quite a lot of hours building missions, how safe are these missions, to work after coming updates? I dont have prior expertise, so i dont know how updates effected missions in the past. Only thing i found, missions i downloaded for research purpose, gave an error massage while trying to open them in ME.

Generally, if the update affects the missions, you can use the ME to resave missions and groups so they will work with the updated game. The option is found under the tools menu.

Note that you need to have the .mission file for doing the resaving.

Sometimes behaviour will change but presumably the developers try hard to ensure missions continue to work, and that future changes are backwards-compatible. Otherwise mission makers for paid campaigns (and volunteer mission makers) would constantly need to update their mission logic.
