JG1_Vonrd Posted November 2, 2019 Posted November 2, 2019 Does anyone have links to photos of aircraft after field repairs? (Not depot repairs...I'm looking for the quick and dirty ones at the squadron level). I know how I would do them but I would like to see how it was actually done. Flush patches with doublers? Quick "scab" patches? Panel replacement? Speed tape? Did they paint the patches? No paint? Primer only? Green zinc primer?... etc. 1
JG1_Vonrd Posted January 19, 2021 Author Posted January 19, 2021 I never got a reply to this so I'm just bumping... can't hurt to ask twice. 1
JG1_Vonrd Posted January 26, 2021 Author Posted January 26, 2021 Well, here's a couple of my personal skins with field repairs. I decided to go with bare aluminum just for aesthetics. I doubt that they would have let them go bare (I wouldn't... I'd at least apply some primer. I've seen a drawing of a 109 that had a repair on the lower wingtip... I forget which one... and it had red oxide primer applied to the repairs). Both planes have a combination of full panel replacements and "scab" patches. And BTW, I'm an A&P mechanic with 25+ years of experience doing sheet metal repairs so, other than the bare metal, I don't think they are beyond the realm of plausibility. 1 1
