SeaQuark Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Alright, so now that multiplayer is granted 24/7, I think it's time I bought this game. I've been playing War Thunder's Simulator mode with manual engine controls and have gotten fairly adept at it, and now I think I'm ready to move on to a "true" simulator. But I can't make up my mind: should I buy the Standard Edition or the Premium Edition? My main interest is in Soviet aircraft, I doubt I will fly the German side much at all. So I suppose really what I'm asking is, will the La-5 be worth the extra money? Or are there other bonuses to Premium I'm not aware of? One other (possibly silly) question.... how on earth would I buy the Standard Edition anyway? All I can see on the website is the Premium edition. The Standard is nowhere to be seen.
FuriousMeow Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) You can only buy Premium right now. If you wait until the official (not final mind you) release date, then the Standard Edition will be available again to purchase. As far as worth it, that's entirely on you. No one can determine that for you. You can, however, peruse this thread and determine it based on opinions of those who have it and make an educated guess for yourself. http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/5326-are-you-suggested-me-buy-bos-now-or-waiting/?p=103370 Edited April 9, 2014 by FuriousMeow
DickDong Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 The majority here will say its worth it on here, we're pretty biased on that. If the price is out've your price range, wait until release. Other excellent affordable options include Rise of Flight (free) and IL-2 Cliffs of Dover $19.99. Both are of the flight sim combat genre. This genre is reblossoming, try them all.
ACG_KaiLae Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Cliffs of dover can frequently be gotten for less than that, it goes on sale for 10 bucks or less with some regularity.
FlatSpinMan Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 As the other guys have said, we can't really decide for you - depends on your gaming budget, your interest in WWII planes, etc, etc. As a Soviet pilot you're pretty likely to want the La-5 when it comes out as it'll be the best plane they have. I have no idea what the pricing will be to buy it separately, though, so can't say which package represents better value in that respect. The one advantage of buying the Premium package now is that you an start playing right now. The final release is scheduled for Spring sometime, but schedules come and go. Anyway, welcome to the forums. Hope to see you again sooner or later.
senseispcc Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 It is my personal opinion but the premium version of a game is only a question of opinion! It is the same for a object does it have more or less value if it is first series? In most of antiquities it value goes up but not always? In the case of games often the first version is not perfect or complete and most of all in the case of COD how is a great simulation (OK! you need a great PC) particular now with the TF patch 4.3 it is even near perfection.
PantsPilot Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Well I've just splashed on the premium version and so far haven't suffered any nightmares! It's great entertainment and yes the extra planes will be worth it. With the Custom Missions feature there's loads to be getting on with and as a whole the game is very refreshing. Recommended.

There are two horses in this race, both capable one is CloD which is improving due to the efforts of the guys at ATAG via their patches. You can pick it up cheaply on Steam. The other is obviously BoS and all it boils down to is how much you want to spend, but I would say that personally having flown CLoD for years and now trying BoS over the past few months for me at least BoS is the more realistic WW2 flying experience even in it's 45% complete state. I still fly CLoD occasionally as I love the Channel campaigns and we don't have anything similar in BoS at the moment. Even if you decide to go with CloD for now you will have fun, just as long as you install the Team Fusion (ATAG) patches to bring the sim upto spec. But I would say that for the ultimate experience, BoS is where you want to be in the end as it is (or will be) 10/10.
Capt_Stubing Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I say do yourself a favor and pick up Clod and patch to the latest release from ATAG that came out about 2 weeks ago TF4.3. I don't agree BOS is any more realistic than Clod especially with TF latest patch. While I can't wait for BOS to come online it isn't finished yet. At this point I would wait for the official release and pick up BOS at that time it is looking very good. In the interim you will be very happy with Clod especially given it's price and where Team Fusion in heading. 1
PantsPilot Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I'd def go for CLOD its a bargain now off steam and gets auto updated on install. Living in SE England it's great to fly over my home town and adds a bit of spice to air battles that way. Different theatre of war entirely to BOS so there both worth having. different planes too including some early war aircraft which makes a change, oh and a very nice Tiger Moth trainer too! Scenery is amazing too and not a snowflake in sight!
Thunder7 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 Hello all, Any idea when the Campaign will be ready to play? I'm looking forward to gaining some rank and medals
LLv34_Flanker Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 S! The Premium is marginally cheaper now than on release of BoS, if a "fiver" will tip over the economy I think it is worth to get it and step in to fly BoS from the start
OBT-Psycho Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 no idea of where is the campaing on the dev roadmap, however I suppose all progresses will be cleared out once released reached. so I guess spring 2014
