Voyager Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Decided to go for it and ordered an HP Reverb. Should show up in the next couple of days. I've been buzzing about in the Rift CV1 with the super sampling set to 150% (2010x2010) for the last few days and its been playable, so hopefully this works. 2
Thad Posted October 29, 2019 Posted October 29, 2019 Good luck and please report your experience the Reverb. ?

I don´t fully understand you experiment with the CV1. When you say 150%, do refer to SteamVR SS or to OculusTrayTool PD 1.5? I have tried to reproduce your SS test and 150%SteamVR-SS is 1646x1960 per eye, making a total of 6.45 million pixels. But 226%SteamVR-SS (which is 1.5 PD in OTT) is 2020x2405 per eye, making a total of 9.72 million pixels. Be aware that apart from the WMR software you will need to install a Steam application called "WMR for SteamVR" or "WMR for SteamVR beta". Instructions here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/using-steamvr-with-windows-mixed-reality Depending on which one you chose ("WMR for SteamVR" or "WMR for SteamVR beta") the SteamVR SS number applies differently. With non-beta you apply 188% to get 9.5 million pixels. With beta you apply 76% to get 9.4 million pixels. See below.
Voyager Posted October 29, 2019 Author Posted October 29, 2019 I think I had the Steam VR beta installed, and adjusted the slider until it was reporting about 2100x2100 below the slider, but I may have both the global and the application specific set. I'll need to go through everything again and re-set stuff up again. I ran into this walkthrough for setting up the Reverb for DCS (I do like the F-14B) and was going to try things that way first: https://vr4dcs.com/category/reverb-setup/ We will see how it goes when it gets here
Voyager Posted October 31, 2019 Author Posted October 31, 2019 So, it got here, it seems to work, but am existong, unrelated issue on my desktop just hit critical mass, so, that rebuild I've been planning for December is going to be happening this weekend. Fun times. On the other hand, I should be able to give reports on how the Ryzen R7 3800X performs too. 2
PatrickAWlson Posted November 8, 2019 Posted November 8, 2019 Anything new? I was leaning towards the reverb. I only use VR for this game. Would love IL2 specific feedback
Voyager Posted November 9, 2019 Author Posted November 9, 2019 It looks really nice, though Windows Mixed Reality is a pain. Also the hand controls are terrible. I haven't used the audio yet because I have a headset I prefer to use for sound Not yet having tried the Index, I'm told that the Reverb and the Index are very comparable. I ended up picking the Reverb because it had the lower cost and I expected I'm not going to be doing other VR games much. From what I've seen of the controllers, the Index will have the better general purpose usage as a VR headset, and the ability to set refresh rates will probably give it more longevity than the Reverb. The head cable on the Reverb also seems poorly designed. All that said, I'm very happy with the Reverb for Il-2. This is probably the highest resolution that we're going to be able to drive for the near future, and by the time we're really going to be able to push 144hz on Index and Reverb level headsets, I'm probably going to be looking for 200 degree fov at this sort of pixel per degree density, and I didn't feel like the extra ~$400 price on the Index was going to be worth it for me. 1
Gomoto Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 Coming from Rift CV1 I am also using a Reverb, I do not think the hand controls are terrible. Roomscale games are nice too. 1
