exploding planes sound the same as crash landing ones?

Assuming this is a bug? A lawn darting plane right below you that blows up in a fireball has the same "metal garbage can tossed on the sidewalk" sound that a belly landing plane does. It's so anticlimactic :(

Not in the IL-2 that I'm playing?

Haven't encountered this either. Big bada-boom when planes bite it at speed. . . . . usually mine

Not for me... if the plane blows up it makes a different sound for sure.

Happens to me, so you're not alone.  I don't get a nice BOOM...but a weird metallic sound like you described.

when *I* crash, i hear the proper boom as it switches to 3rd person.
Whenever I shoot someone down, (or an enemy pilot blacks out and goes hurtling into the dirt like a meteor), near me, i hear the metallic "clunk" sound.

Totally gotcha, I haven't experienced what you're reporting for other planes either.

That last bit was just an attempt at self-deprecating humour.

I'm not sure I've been close enough to another plane exploding since the last patch to have heard it explode. I will pay more attention to see if I get this too.

I think I've figured it out.

The canopy is filtering out explosion sounds, but not the crash landing sound. That's why that's the only thing you hear.
Not sure if we're supposed to hear an explosion at all over the engine, but we certainly aren't supposed to hear the collision sound.
