FC in VR: Wow! But Damn...

A buddy of mine recently upgraded his VR headset, which means I was the lucky recipient of his old one; like really old one lol.

I've been playing with it for the the past couple days now and I can totally see why people say they would never go back.  It's fun just flying around.  The experience is amazing!

However, I feel like I'm blind as a bat!  I've been trying to play online, and scenery and atmosphere is great; but when it comes to other aircraft, I can't see a thing unless I'm super close.

This has led to...predictable results.  While I'm sure my fellow fliers have appreciated the exceedly easy kills; Are there any tips, tricks, or settings that I should know of to get better results?

I'm guessing you got a Rift.

You're right; it's harder to see distant objects.  Screen door effect doesn't help either.  You get used to it somewhat.

On the early Rift the user can adjust the lens distance to center them on his own pupils and if you wear prescription glasses the lens inserts work well.

You seem to know a lot about settings; check the graphic settings on not only the game but your computer.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Hi, Rift here also.

1.Spotting in VR is different than on a monitor, the same tricks don't apply. You basically have to go back to school and re learn how to spot. Practice against the AI in QMBs. It is easier to spot since the last patch and of course easier in FC since planes are slower and relatively larger on screen.

2. You have to tweak your VR and graphic settings. There are a couple of sticky threads on this in the "Virtual reality and Virtual controllers" sub forum. In my experience, the VR SuperSample setting has the biggest impact. If you go too high, it blends the pixels and makes it harder to spot distant planes. Start at 100% and then tweak to your personal taste.

Hi, welcome to the wonderful world of VR! ?

Check this out, among other things it adds some very nice zoom options for VR. It does take some tweaking to get it working right.
