FeuerFliegen Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) Title sums it up; Yesterday I received the new Virpil VPC ACE-2 Rudder Pedals. IL-2 BoX recognizes the rudder axises, but does not recognize the brake axises. Other sims such as IL-2 CLoD do recognize the brake's axis. Any suggestions? Thanks! Edit: Also, I do have the Virpil software... it does recognize the rudder and brake axises, but I'm not sure if there's anything additional I should do with it. Sokol1 Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) Some axis in some controllers has difficulties to be recognized, try pressing the brakes and then in assignment window release. Assign for: Left wheel brakes Right wheel brakes But not for: Wheel brakes (IL-2, Lagg's, YaK's, Spitfires, Mc 202, Pe-2...) Edited October 26, 2019 by Sokol1
FeuerFliegen Posted October 27, 2019 Author Posted October 27, 2019 Not sure exactly what you mean by "pressing the brakes and then in assignment window release." I've tried it several different times, after computer restarts, etc.; not sure what else to do. I'm familiar with the differences between assigning for left/right wheel brakes and not just for wheel brakes like on planes that don't have foot brakes.
jollyjack Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 (edited) If your unit is not recognized wholly in just one particular game only (NOTE different IL2 planes might not be able to see certain controllers) it might be an USB ID issue. You could do something about that with two IMO necessary tools: USBdeview, and JoyID. I just had to use them again as i moved to a new PC. Edited October 27, 2019 by jollyjack correction

Usually you assign brakes in this way: click in Right or Left wheel brakes command, and when the window pop-up, press the brake pedal, for move the axis. Since this don't work, try: Press the brake pedal first and hold pressed, open the command (Right or Left wheel brakes), and when window pop-up release the brake, for move the axis now in reverse direction. Generally this make "stubborn" axis be recognized,. And if in game brake result always pressed (test with Bf 109, P-39...) in Key bindings click in reverse arrow ahead the command name for reverse the axis direction for game. @jollyjack Their issue is not USB controller not recognized by Windows/games, but just brake axes in Bo'X' only. The VPC rudder pedal is recognized by Windows, other games and in Bo'X' - but in this case only the rudder axis can be assigned without... "tambourine dance". ?
jollyjack Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 OK, i misunderstood the question, thanks for pointing that out. J

Sokol1 Posted October 27, 2019 Posted October 27, 2019 (edited) OK, now try use "force brute". First look at Windows Game Controllers the name of brakes axes, probable Y and Z and take note. Now go to the folder: ....\IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\input\ Rename the file "devices.txt", this force game detect your controllers again, so try assign brake axes. If fail, try: Open - with Notepad, the file "current.actions", locate this lines: rpc_wheel_brakes_left, , 0| // Left wheel brakes rpc_wheel_brakes_right, , 0| // Right wheel brakes Change for: rpc_wheel_brakes_left, joy#_axis_$, 0| // Left wheel brakes rpc_wheel_brakes_right, joy#_axis_$, 0| // Right wheel brakes Replacing the # with your rudder pedal number for game e.g. "joy0, joy1, joy2..." look in rudder assignment for know, us called "yaw" in the file, ex. for VKB T-Rudder, is "joy2" and rudder axis name is "x" rpc_yaw, joy2_axis_x, 0| // Plane control: yaw Same for axis names ($), what you look in Game Controllers. Save the file and test. Inf don't work... well, no more "tambourine dance" is know. Edited October 27, 2019 by Sokol1
FeuerFliegen Posted October 28, 2019 Author Posted October 28, 2019 (edited) So, I did everything you said, and while I think I got most of it right, there's one part I'm slightly unsure of; To get the name of the brake axes, I went to windows game controllers; Under game controller properties, it says: VPC Rudder Pedals properties Axes Z Axis- changes with rudder pedal movement Dial- bar moves with left brake movement Slider- bar moves with right brake movement So instead of a letter like X, Y, etc., it just says "Dial" and "Slider" in the current.actions file, I renamed it: rpc_wheel_brakes_left, joy5_axis_dial, 0| // Left wheel brakesrpc_wheel_brakes_right, joy5_axis_slider, 0| // Right wheel brakes I don't know if this is correct, but regardless, IL-2 BoX still did not recognize the brakes. I definitely appreciate the help! Edit- I got it working! It turns out even though I did the calibration through virpil software, I also had to use the windows calibration tool.... not sure why as it worked with other software, but all is good now. Thanks for helping! These pedals are great! Edited October 28, 2019 by FeuerFliegen 2
