I liked to build small airports into the nice landscape of RoF. On one side, on the Arras Map the hills with rivers of the RoF map are missing, but there is no way around that.

But what I find very disturbing: the whole landscape of the BoX series is so muddy, that WW1 planes sink into that mud everywhere -  even in towns. No succesful  landings out of airfields are possible anymore and the nice little hidden airfields are not possible as well, as most of the planes are not able to take off.

Not to dispute your larger point but you definitely can land off the airfields but it’s very touchy. I’ve had most success keeping the tail up for as long as possible. My lack of dogfighting skill gives me plenty of practice. ?

Sorry but your wheels sink into the mud or ground or whatever on both Arras and Rheinland maps.    Spawn in at an airfield and taxi about 5 or 6 hundred meters and you are up to your axles. This makes a landing at anywhere except an official airfield almost impossible. It can be done but your plane flips at the last second in most cases.

I wouldn't say 'almost impossible', I've landed successfully several times, but it's a bumpy ride and taking off again is another matter.

To be fair it probably should be bumpier than we're used to in RoF, maybe a few different ground textures could eventually be given different bumpy properties..

But certainly the sinking is real and presumably shouldn't be.

Find a road and land on that.

Works for me, if I need to put down short of an airfield.

For sure as I said I don’t dispute it’s in a bad state. Just sharing how I’ve been landing on it with reasonable success. I’ve had my fair share of nosing over at the last minute as well.

You flip,  if you leave the narrow road by one meter, what you normally do, at least in the end of the landing roll. But that doesn´t change my point: you can´t build your on airfield anywhere.

Especially the Rheinland map does have nice spots, which would give nice little maps, as we had in the "Fast Food" server of RoF.

Quote: "Different ground textures could eventually be given different bumpy properties"  That would be the most realistic way, but I fear, the effort will be too big for the team to do that.
