It is possible to be damaged by debris from enemy planes

I did find out this fact during a air battles with a fast Tempest against a FW190d9 My plane was also destroyed by the enemy plane I just shot down , to be precise his left aileron how destroyed not only my propeller but also did stop my engine. Thanks to the designer of this game for the rare but realistic addition to the game. (if in doubt go to the screenshot forum were I posted the screenshots of the incident) :salute:

Yes.  Very much so..  I generally can't hit anything unless I am point blank so for me it is a constant issue.

Happens pretty often to me, too. Sometimes it looks as if the debris really aims for me.

BTW when your prop gets hit, the engine always stops in game.

Yes, and that's an issue that needs to be addressed.

It's a decent compromise as I doubt they have modeled - the now unbalanced crankshaft shaking itself to death, throwing rods and eventually breaking the engine free from the mounts thereby changing the COG and the aircaft suddently pitching violently upwards at such a rate as to render you uncounscious...............

Whichever plane I fly always has a special gigantic magnet installed in the spinner, which attracts all the falling debris from enemy planes.

I've flown a considerable distance a couple of times after getting a prop strike in the P-47. Eventually though the engine will start to shake, spew oil and die. Pretty realistic I think.

Its cool, but sometimes it doesnt work and you can survive big hits by debris

It’s hilarious.

When it happens to other people.

I've had more then one prop-strike from chunks of planes I shot down.

In QMB, I followed an enemy plane on his way down. He hit the water and me, ~25m above got instantly PK'd from the 'splash'.  I guess it's feasible that debris bouncing of the surface could do that.  I haven't tried it in awhile but, it's been possible to fly through the explosion of an enemy AAA almost scraping the belly of the plane on the surrounding sandbags without any consequence.  I wonder if that's been changed.  I can see flying close to an exploding target and taking dents and pinholes from debris but, flying directly though the explosion that close should be a good bit more dangerous - no matter what your speed is.

I have found that approaching from something other than dead six helps, especially low to high or high to low.  By changing the plane it seems the odds of getting hammered with debris are much less.

Last time I was hit by canopy and by rudder from P51, canopy did nothing(and hit exact same things on my plane as the rudder) and rudder knocked out my propeler, shot off my canopy and sawed off my own rudder ?

I managed to land my trusty Dora in the field.

An aileron came from an enemy plane hit my propeller and bend it

I tried the same with the propeller , but I could miss the ' crash tjuu bang' noise when it happens

Hello,
I confirm, I have already been shot down at least 2 times by the debris of IL2 that I attacked.
This is in line with the reality that shooting down an IL2 requires a close approach, as was the case with Decker on August 27, 1942, with oil spraying of IL2 in the Stalingrad area.

Yeah, no joke. It is a pain, especially if one tends to get in real close like some actual aces did.

At first I thought it was due to me using large calibre guns, turns out 12mm does this aswell. Only with sub 8mm calibre guns the debris doesn`t pose much danger, until I hit an aileron or a flap, then it detaches from the target and all you can do is bail out.

A bit of both I would suspect, but I have always thought that a plane exploding is more about the plane being hit and less about the ammo that is hitting it.  A 30mm will carve out chunks but that's not really what is going to damage you.  You're going to get damaged when the target disintegrates, and that is more likely due to ammo, fuel or some other critical thingy being hit rather than what is hitting it.
