Uriah Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 My experience is that he can fly a bit faster than I and can climb a bit faster than I. But I can just out turn him. So for some odd reason I can get him to turn and burn. It might take ten or more turns but I will finally get a shots on him. Then he may try to turn the other direction. By this time he is mine. Now in the real world and likely online I would never have the luxury of spending so much time chasing in circles. Still, he really should have stuck to boom and zoom.
Finkeren Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I can just about catch the 109F in a climb with the Yak, but that might be due to AI, I very much doubt that this will be the reality in MP.
=69.GIAP=ALEXEJ Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I remember the "real" ace AI in RoF at the first years: It was no fun piloting an Albatros III/V versus a Spad, a Se-5a or even a N-19. They all were clinging on Boom and Zoom - no way to drag them into a turn fight...

If it is something is seriously wrong IMHO. But i doubt it. FMs are all still work in progress.. Edited April 8, 2014 by VSG1_Winger

There's a completely different feeling between the two aircraft, when I fly them myself. When I'm in a Yak, I'm flying an extremely capable fighter with good stability and climb rate and awesome turn rate. When I'm flying the Bf 109, I'm a rocket ship on my way to Mars, on a collision course, I am a satelite. I'm out of control, I am a sex machine ready to reload, like an atom bomb about to oh-oh-oh-oh-oh explode! 1

You are correct, in MP more often than not the 109 driver will go for a full power climb leaving you wallowing while he and his mates set you up for a good going over. It's almost like a form of LaGG fishing seeing who they can 'drag' to the top where they're easily speared as it were. This is why I always say that if you dive down to attack always extend out at full speed and tree top hopping until you're sure you can safely climb back to altitude and then come in for another attack. Of course this only works on expert settings where the 109 drivers can't see you sneaking in on top of them...
Finkeren Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Of course this only works on expert settings where the 109 drivers can't see you sneaking in on top of them... I've flown quite a bit on the "normal" server as well, and it's not all about the element of surprise. If you start out with 500m altitude advantage, you do get that short time frame, where you genuinely outperform him, and you're dictating the fight. However, you have to close the deal soon, because he will reverse the situation eventually.
Uriah Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 My personal problem with B&Z is that when I dive down I often miss getting a hit on the poor duck. Then I have to fly off again. I end up spending so little time engaging the enemy it just is not fun. I suppose if I got in a lot more hits it would be fun.
Nil Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I think 1 vs 1 (or rather one Bnz and the other try to turn away) BnZ is boring, but my favorite plane is the FW-190 still! Try a BF-109 vs 3 AI LAGG3's in qmb, one of them will get you, quite often, if you lack patience and dicipline!
