Q_Walker Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 (edited) As we draw closer to the final release of Bodenplatte, my excitement for it's Career grows. Are there going to be additional missions specific to Bodenplatte? If there are added mission types, will they be implemented into the other Careers? Edit: Will there be anything new added to the Career mode itself, excluding new mission types and what not? Edited October 20, 2019 by J_Walkur

Feathered_IV Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 I imagine Ratcatcher missions would be an important addition. But most importantly the, "our base is under attack" types would be the most essential if they are adding new missions.
Yardstick Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 I'm hoping for decent fighter bomber careers (P-47, P-38). The current ones are very frustrating - slow ingress speeds, no fighter cover and invariably you get intercepted. For BoBP, (Allied) I would like to see fighter interception the exception rather than the rule and flak being the real danger. Jade Monkey has a few very good missions in his single mission pack that capture the sort of thing that I am referring to. Generally I would love to see a few more random flights unconnected to my mission. Once you have got used to the mission template, you can just switch off on the ingress and egress legs - away from the front lines there is rarely any activity in the air. I would love to have a chance of being bounced to add some tension into what is overall a great single player campaign. The old IL-2 seemed more random and a little less formulaic in its career mission design. 1 1 5

migmadmarine Posted October 20, 2019 Posted October 20, 2019 They did mention in a previous DD that there are to be new mission types specific to the western front.

Train hunting maybe? Or airfield protection flights to shield returning 262s. Low level free hunts searching for widely scattered road transport would be good too, rather than the pinpoint attacks on precisely located vehicle columns that we have now. 2
Pharoah Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 there was a career generator previously - is there one that works with BoBP? I always loved career mode but the first ones that came with BoBP wasn't very good, especially the bomber campaigns. I never got past the first mission as it seemed ALL the enemy fighters were just concentrating on my bomber! lol 3
Voidhunger Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 I need to have in my logbook what type of planes i shot down. Not only light, medium, heavy what we have now. I dont understand why it was taken off! It was in ROF career. 4

I also hope the briefings no longer tell us to "destroy spotted aircraft". Most of the ones in bodenplatte have stripes. 13
dun_aenghus Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 Could not agree more about listing specific types of aircraft shot down in the logbook.

Feathered_IV Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 I think Pharaoh is referring to the old Loft-era career with the Action-point and groundhog day mission scenario.

Q_Walker Posted October 21, 2019 Author Posted October 21, 2019 I definitely agree with the log book, that was great in RoF. I also liked the mission ideas you all came up with. Some I would like to see added are just simple patrol missions. Patrol the frontlines, patrol behind friendly lines and patrol behind enemy lines. 1
336th_Wood Posted October 22, 2019 Posted October 22, 2019 I think more use of fighter sweeps, or escorts would be good, but escorting formations of bombers that are at least at least at squadron level strength minimum. I’d also like to see the option of strafing an enemy airfield after a successful escort, which is historically what the 8th AF fighter groups did once they were cleared to go hunting. 1

Haven't tried them since. Any improvements?

Georgio Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 I'd like to see more units buzzing around especially near the front. I know we have the 'scattered' and 'dense' option now but for those with rigs that can handle it a genuine furball would be nice once in a while.

Letka_13/Arrow_ Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I am looking forward a lot to the career mode in BOBP, I hope that we will get a lot of A/G missions when flying for allies with sporadic interceptions, convoy/train hunting, airfield attacks, front patrols, tactical escorts and even recon/bomb damage assessment flights. Having particular types of aircraft in Logbook should also be implemented.

In 1944 the Luftwaffe was averaging less than 400 Fighter sorties per day in NW Europe. The USAAF 9th air force alone was more than double not to mention the 2nd TAW and the 8th AF. Most Allied pilots rarely saw German fighters, furthermore many Luftwaffe pilots were poorly trained, rather than have escorts they should simply reduce the likelihood of being intercepted and randomize the number and location of attackers when they do. In reality Allied fighter planes face far greater threats from Flak than enemy aircraft. Edited February 3, 2021 by twilson37
Alexenyanna Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 Yeah, you are right but in game with P-38 the loses are high, two Bf190 shoot down four P38 not that rarely.

Those are a the disadvantages of the career system. You can rip off a whole squadron on a single day, the next day 12 new fighter occur. Try to reduce the air density.
