Discussion about Yak-9, Yak-9T and Hurricane Collector Planes Announcement

I suppose the Yak-9 will be the main plane and the -T model will be a selectable modification? (like Pe-87/110).

Collector planes need to be successful in order for them to continue. Next time it may be something I’m excited about, or that you’re excited about.

 

If they stop happening however then your favorite collector aircraft possibility will, for certain never happen. Everyone should keep that in mind when deciding to pass on a collector plane.

totally agree, still likely to pass on the hurricane. They're just so ugly LOL, can't get past it. 

 

Maybe I'll hold my nose and grab it just to support these glorious devs.

I too am interested.  The new planes will be sweet. Hope this isn’t it for the eastern front as an arrow wing il2, la7, yak3, and maybe a late pe2 would be cool.  Bombers like the b/a26 a and mosquito would be nice too.  I don’t know how the devs keep chugging along pumping out what they do at their pace but the good work is appreciated.

Thanks. Weren´t there Yak 9s around Stalingrad? IIRC the first machines entered service in 10/42?

Browning .303 machine guns. Possibly rockets (though I cant be sure). Bombs. 2.7 mm Berezin UB machine guns.  Two 20 mm ShVAK cannon. Maybe even a tail gunner mod.

Just getting a bit closer to a full Yak fighters lineup and that's great!

We discussed this question on the Russian forum, looks like it's a mistake, we can't find any docs about Yak-9 around Stalingrad. Maybe there were 1-2 planes in 1943 but there are no docs...

I have a book that states they were at Stalingrad. Quote here:

 

Yak-9 M-105PF produced two plants: N153 - from October 1942 to February 1943 (from the 1st to the 3rd series, the last aircraft - N03-51), a total of 195 aircraft; and N 166, from January to August 1943 (from 1st to 6th series), a total of 264 aircraft. Thus, a total of 459 Yak-9 M-105PFs were built. For the first time in the fighting, the Yak-9 took part during the Soviet counteroffensive at Stalingrad in the second half of December 1942.

Yes, this phrase is in all Russian books about Yak-9 but if you try to check Fighter Air Regiments which are listed in these books, then you find out that they did not have Yak-9s at this period. We believe that this is simply a big mistake in the books and so far there is no reverse evidence.

Undecided, but due to the difference in the airframes the game will see them as two separate planes. Not decided yet how I will sell them.

I'll probably be getting the Yak-9, largely because I see it as one of the best plane for new pilots, along with the La-5's. They are just simple, focused fighters that are easy to pick up, yet stay competitive with the stuff that's live now. 

 

The Hurricane is also a good choice for filling out the British line up. I think we've got enough way war British and German aircraft to do stop-gab Battle of Britain type missions.
