IckyATLAS Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 Jason mentioned that with the existing Atmospheric system we can have two layered cloud system. This means that we could fly between the cloud layers and also I suppose have the sunlight nice effects reflecting/refracting between the clouds. I tried but have not succeeded. I tried to have a large height value hoping it would create two layers of clouds but to no avail. How should we set the Atmospheric cloud system to have this work ? Any clues?
56RAF_Roblex Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 I was flying on Kota last night and it appeared to have two layers but only a few hundred metres apart.

Try 03_Heavy_01 (height 600-1,300m) or 03_Heavy_08 (height 600-1,200m). I'm not sure whether other settings produce dual-layer clouds. Edited October 17, 2019 by JimTM 1
Gambit21 Posted October 17, 2019 Posted October 17, 2019 It’s a specific pre-set. I used it in my A-20 campaign. I can’t remember which one atm, one of the ‘heavy’ pre-sets though. JimTM snuck in there - thanks Jim.
IckyATLAS Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 I tried 03_Heavy_08 600 1300 and yes it works. Thanks Jim. Is it possible to modify the gap between the layers I wonder. Lot of trial and error to do here.

IckyATLAS Posted October 20, 2019 Author Posted October 20, 2019 Unfortunately you are right. It works only with Heavy_08. You can however play with altitude and height parameter. The height will have as an effect to have the clouds in the first layer more or less thicker. You cannot control the gap between layers. A little more control on layered clouds would have been nice to have.

Yes correct the difference between the two is how the gap looks between the cloud levels. In Heavy_08 it seems the gap is either larger and/or the space between layers is more distinct in the sense that visibility is less obstructed. In Heavy_01 this gap seems smaller and so the low layer clouds do obstruct more the visibility between layers. The other difference between the two is that the sky is globally loaded with larger patches of clouds is Heavy_08 than Heavy_01 but this is logical. After looking at the various variants It seems that the clouds are indeed made of two layers. A cloud base and a cloud top. In the models other than Heavy_08 and Heavy_01 (except the Light ones) these two layers are simply combined to get one thicker cloud with a flatter bottom cloud and a more bulbous top part. The quantity size and distribution of clouds goes increasing between the Light, Medium, Heavy version. Overcast is maybe a little different in how it is built, as it seems there are three layers or even four. But difficult to say.
Alonzo Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 For what it's worth, I use Heavy_08 on my maps and people regularly compliment the "awesome clouds". I'd say that's your best option.
