Yeah, Pips. Excellent skins and skin packs. Many thanks! I also appreciate that you make skins of more "exotic" air forces...

Greetings all...

I thought I'd do a "thread rez" on this to ask a question.  A number of the 361st FS aircraft had the Q in their QI squadron code painted with a vertical tail.  I know Hess Bomberger's "Carolyn's Vergeltungswaffe" (44-15080, QI-B) did and was wondering if anyone had done accurate skins for that and the other aircraft which did.  I want to say I saw a pretty well known plane in a period photo, with a vertical Q tail, but which is always modeled with the angled tail, but I can't remember which plane it was and it's been a number of years since I saw the photo.

Thanks for any help you can give!

I'd like to stick a couple bits of information into the thread, if I may.  Firstly, this emblem...

1617008825_356thFG-1954.jpg.bdce519637c04d630b67b3ddf0dd8ade.jpg

...was NOT the emblem of the 356th FG until well after WWII.  They used a version of the 8th Air Force emblem with text added.

An example of that insignia can be found a couple places at Martlesham Heath, at St. Michael and All Angels Church, in their stained glass windows.  Also in the slide show at the MH control tower/museum.

Secondly, this aircraft...

...is NOT "The Virginia Esquire."  That name makes no sense, to start with.  A "Virginia Squire" is a type of "southern gentleman" in the American south.  The name has since been used for a basketball team and a brand of cigar.  The aircraft name is also mentioned several times on the "Little Friends" website as it was also the name of Easley's P-47.

I find it interesting that their Jugs were the plainest P-47's in the 8th. They had NO nose colors, for some reason. All of their P-47's were olive drab from nose to tail.

Not at all.  Most of them had gray(?) undersides (possibly a dirty sky blue?).  They had squadron-color coded horizontal stripes on the vertical stabilizers and many had some combination of matching colored canopy frames, spinners (tiny though they were), and/or rings just behind the propellers, on the front of the engine cowling.

I just thought I'd tidy up a few details and also possibly get new attention on the question in my previous post, regarding the aircraft with the vertical tail in the Q of the "QI" 361st FS squadron code.

Thanks!

Here is the last one that will complete the first volume of skins !!!!

I based my wotk on VERY FEW documents but I did my best ...........Originally,  I did not plan to do this skin, since I had much more material for other skins but [356thFG]Kyle422 has been persuasive !!!:salute:

I made a mix between the original photo of the machine (the only available on books and net !!!??) and the profile (always subject to possible mistakes)

Anyway, I does not followed the original photography with the camouflaged US Stars and let my skin with clean US Stars. But I made a special edition with Camouflaged Stars (if any one wants it ?)

As no documents are available for left side of the plane, had to imagine a little bit the possibilities of markings

Also the serial number on tail, as shown on the profile seems to be wrong. I cannot imagine the 073 on one side and 415 only on other side. So I have chosen to represent a classic serial number on each side...

That's all at the moment. 1st Volume will be ready during the next evening.

This is very nice. Lt. Slanker, pilot of The Brunette Bunny, was my mother's first husband. Indirectly, I supplied the black and white photo above. I sent that photo to some people connected to the museum at Martlesham Heath and it's turned up in several places since.

Hi Kyle422,  Do you have more document on that plane ?

Here is a decent photo. This pilot was my mother's first husband. I have some additional documentation.
