Spitfire IX with 150 octane: that new?

Recommended Posts

Was poking around in the aircraft last night and noticed that the Spitfire MkIX has 150 octane gas now. Is that a new thing? I don't seem to recall seeing that before. How does it do for it? I do notice you can get either the Merlin 70 or the 150 gas but not both. Was that expected?

Thank you,

It was added with the last patch.

It gives it much better performance due to allowing the engine to go to 25lbs of boost.

It disables automatic supercharger control

Reflects 1945 2TAF operations. It is optimised for low-to-medium altitudes so you will get limited benefit with the Merlin 70.

Unless the XIV comes, it is the final service Spitfire model available. Wickedly so.

It’s an absolute monster too, has ridiculous climb performance. Not the fastest but it’s definitely competitive.

Big wings for its size and power mean good RoC up to medium altitude, then it becomes on par with others. On raw speed it suffers a bit from its older design, though this was cured to a degree by the new engines that we might have in the XIV.

 It is lovely, though.
