=GEMINI=Hawkmoon98 Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Does anyone knows where i can find USAAF fonts for the american P-51/P-47/...?
Danziger Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 I got one called USAAF Stencil from www.dafont.com 1
gabuzomeu Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 I'm using Amarillo USAF font. USAF Stencil goes like this: 1
Raptorattacker Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 Both Amarillo and USAF Stencil are good. Sometimes they need 'manipulating' but they're generally good for the job. 1
PROX_ Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Aeromatics Stencil, USN Stencil, P51 all good collections.
Bo_Nidle Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 I use a multitude of different fonts as the design of the numbers and code letters can vary considerably. There's sometimes a degree of "surgery" required to achieve the correct shape on some characters or to add the stencil gaps. For the tail numbers on P-51's and P-47s I favour a font called "Octin Stencil". (Just substitute a capital letter "I" for the number 1) The other fonts I use are: Airborne Pilot (Very Useful) Airborne Pilot II (Also very useful) USAAF Code USAAF Stencil RCN_80_ATH RAF_WW2_841_ATH RAF_WW2_641_ATH PW_ATH RAF_45D_851_ATH RAF_45D_841_ATH BOU College BOU College Stencil Amarillo USAF (This one is actually more appropriate for modern USAF but still has its uses) USN Stencil (Similar to Amarillo USAF in that its more relvant to modern military as some character shapes are incorrect for WW2) Hope that's useful. Bo. 1

Sorry for the slow reply on this. I'm the author of the RAF, RCAF and RCN, fonts, over 20 years ago now. The web site where I used to distribute them crashed, and I have not restored it. A zip file containing the latest version of the fonts is attached. For a brief guide to their use can still be read on the Wayback Machine's archive of my former site at the link below. https://web.archive.org/web/20200706213639/http://aircraft-in-focus.com/ath_aircraft_fonts/ August ATH_aircraft_fonts.zip 2

I have been using them ever since I started skinning, nearly 16 years ago. I've used them on nearly all my skins in both Il2 and DCS.
DarkWolf29 Posted April 28, 2021 Posted April 28, 2021 I must echo Megalax in expressing thanks for those fonts. I too have been making use of them for over a decade skinning in Forgotten Battles and now Great Battles, they have been a great help. Good to know the creator is still around in the community. DW
GamerK5083 Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 Thank you, guys, that means a lot. It's always gratifying to see where they've been used - flight sim skins, model airplane decals, reference books, even painting real warbirds sometimes. I'm glad they're still useful. If I had it to do over again, I would just give them cooler names. August
