Elem Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 My PC is about 4 your old and runs RoF maxed out on 3 monitors with Eyefinity without any issues at all. BoS is totally different. I have just done a full reinstall of BoS thinking that might help but no. Even on very low settings and very low resolution BoS is just an unplayable slide show. Surely my PC should be pushing around these pixels quicker than this? Could it be I need more memory? This would seem the most likely bottleneck to me but I would really appreciate some expert help with this. Until this is sorted I cannot use BoS which is really frustrating.
SYN_Mike77 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 you should be good then. Is this just on line or both on and off?
Elem Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 Yeh should be but not. This is off line. Not even tried to go online with it as bad as this.
SYN_Mike77 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I would guess that trying to run 3 monitors on that single card is the problem.
FuriousMeow Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) But it's alpha, so some items may not be fully supported - like Eyefinity. I know some are using multi-monitor but its best to isolate and test. Give it a shot, one monitor at 1920x1080 for testing purposes. How does it run then? It's better to start at the low end of the spectrum and work your way up to determine issues than just assume everything will work 100% with an alpha product. Edited April 7, 2014 by FuriousMeow 1
Volkoff Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) BOS isnt a slide show for me, but I experience lag in multiplayer, a lot. My last time in multiplayer I couldn't even track a single machine, because the planes were teleporting all over the place. I was shot down repeatedly by planes that seemed to warp space and time. It is hit and miss, though. Sometimes things work great and other times planes move as though by quantum teleportation. That what it is, when things are running fine, the multiplayer experience is a absolutely a great deal of fun. MJ Edited April 7, 2014 by =69.GIAP=MIKHA 1
A_S Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) Don´t know if you tried, but run on LOW GFX settings instead of ULTRA. I have noticed no difference in the quality of the picture, just the effects seem to be "more" (anyone else can confirm that?) Also triple screen might stress it...try one monitor too. Elem Posted April 7, 2014 Author Posted April 7, 2014 Thanks for your thoughts so far. I'm surprised by this bad performance because I thought the RoF and BoS engines were essentially the same, so expected them to both run the same on my rig. As I mentioned in the OP, this is even with the very minimum GFX settings and reduced "in window" resolution. It is not until I set the res very low, in a small window that the performance becomes anything like normal. I thought there were others running BoS with Triple Eyefinity setups? Would be nice if a developer could comment on this please? Trying a single monitor is a little difficult as I have my 3 fixed in a frame. I do have an old 22" Yuraku which I could rig up i guess.
A_S Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 i7 2600K on 4.4GhZ, 8GB Corsair Dominators, 570GTX DCII 1.2GB here.... and BOS runs smooth (on LOW), but i have to admit, compared to other sims, they "stress" the FPS-limits with all the hollywood glamour shiny effects and stuff. On Ultra things don´t work out on nowadays modern systems i would say. Sometimes "less is more" ......

The difference between balanced, high and ultra are mostly effects (lightning, shadows, shaders, SSAO etc.), but on low the textures get downgraded alot. I would only select low, if the performance on balanced is really bad. Otherwise balanced is a good choice, if you don't need all the effects. I read that people are having problems with multi-monitor setups since post-effects can no longer be deactivated (=since the introduction of the graphic presets). Edited April 7, 2014 by Matt
Tab Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 the most threads and postings about low framerate come from AMD-card owners, so I guess there is something devs (either or 1c oder AMD) might want to take a look at.

Well.. i´ve been flying (as many others) fuggly IL-2 Forgotten Battles for long.. so the LOW graphics of BOS are more than satisfying. I don´t need cinematic hollywood rendering, but a representation of tactical aspects (gfx wise) .. such as visibility on range... weather...etc .. and its not bad even on LOW.
Matt Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Matter of personal preference i guess. I myself don't like most of those special effects either (lens-flare for instance, which you can't swtich off), but the big difference between low and balanced presets are sharper textures and i prefer sharp textures to blurry textures, as long as the performance is alright. Fully customizable settings would be fantastic though and i hope they bring those back in the final version (or even earlier than that).
FuriousMeow Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Lens flare is only present in the external view, because its an external camera as opposed to the internal actual "pilot" view point.
Matt Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) Actually, there's a lens-flare kind of effect present in cockpit view and that's what i'm referring to. I didn't mean that free floating, invisible, high resolution external camera, that's of course a real WW2 era camera and thus should display lens-flares. Edited April 7, 2014 by Matt 1
Elem Posted April 8, 2014 Author Posted April 8, 2014 Sussed it guys! I had set Antialiasing to 4 without realising. Setting it back to 2 makes a world of difference! BoS runs smooth and sweet now, looking better on LOW GFX rather than on BALANCED. Like Matt said "Fully customizable settings would be fantastic though and i hope they bring those back in the final version (or even earlier than that)." One more question while I'm here though. I prefer to use NORMAL experience settings as I like to see outside views of the A/C from time to time which EXPERT does not allow, but I hate all those red and blue icons. Is it possible to turn off icons and still get outside views? I wish and hope that the control of these becomes more like RoF in the final release.

You can go into "Custom" and set everything the same as "Normal" except for icons I think.
javelina Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) Sorry pulling up an old thread. But as that I'm an AMD GPU user, I've experienced the dreaded DX9 performance a bit as well. Especially when flying in DCSW. If you're an AMD GPU user, make sure to update your video driver to the 14.4. Over at DCSW, there's been reports of a performance bump for anywhere from 20-25%. AMD did something right with that driver. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=123428&highlight=14.4 Make to install as follow: - uninstall the old driver - use a cleaner to make sure everything for that driver is cleaned out. (CCleaner & Drive Sweeper) - reinstall the new 14.4 drivers Yep, a big diff! Edited June 22, 2014 by javelina 1
LLv34_Flanker Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 S! I am using 14.6 Betas without issues on a single AMD card.
