RydnDirty Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 What a great patch ! I have been really enjoying the new planes .I was surprised how competitive the P38 is against late model German planes at high altitude. Really fun to fly too. The P38 force feedback is exquisite. The P51 is also great at altitude but I did notice the buffett from high mach ( high altitude and high speed ) is quite a bit stronger in the P51 than in the other planes. Which surprised me because I thought it had advanced aerodynamics for the time. I did some simple tests starting from 10 km alt and then made a shallow dive at full power till the buffett started and rode that buffett down to tree tops, varying pitch to keep the speed as high as possible keeping buffett reasonable to control the plane. By the time I dove from 10 down to 8km I was indicating about 500km/h on the the UI and the P51 was buffeting quite noticeably but everything else I tested had really no buffet at all at the same speed and altitude. Which surprised me. Maybe my expectations were wrong. It seems the Fw190 D9 and the Bf109K4 have almost no buffet at all at that speed and alt. I also tested the P39 and it had no buffet either... P47, Spit IX. They all fly smoothly at 8km alt and 500km/h IAS. Maybe the P51 flight model is more accurate in this regard because the devs have more data about the high mach buffet for the P51 than many of the other planes? Is the other planes experiencing virtually no buffett at high mach too good to be true? It occurs to me that the devs have been reviewing these faster flight conditions for the most recent planes including the Me262 and P51. It is possible that many of the earlier made planes might not model the same details at such conditions. A P39 or a yak would never go anywhere near that high and fast. Anyway still really enjoying the new content. I got shot by enemy gunfire and my pilot lost consciousness for about 20 seconds then regained consciousness. He was too badly injured to bail out and so I had to try to crash land while he could barely move the stick. This is great stuff
