RabidSalad Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 Searched the forum without luck on whether I can use the map editor on another machine. I'd like to be able to use the map editor on my laptop as opposed to my game machine. Copied the Editor dir from the bin to my laptop and tried running it hoping it would let me know whats missing so I could copy them over as well. No such luck. So the question is... Is there a stand alone editor or whats needed to get the game editor to run on a separate computer, if at all. thx
616Sqn_SpocksOddSocks Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 Installing the game is probably easiest. Mission editor needs access to many of the game files. What is the resolution on the monitor of your desktop? I only ask, because I've never had any luck with monitors that have a vertical resolution of under 900. Anything under that and the properties dialogue appears out of view, and can't be moved.
Gambit21 Posted October 2, 2019 Posted October 2, 2019 I've never heard of an example of this working FYI.

My game setup is all sitting in front of my TV center because I use vr mainly and use the whole shebang for group So screen resolution, size etc etc I control with my gpu and tv menu system when needed. Bottom line its not conducive to map editing. 6 minutes ago, Gambit21 said: I've never heard of an example of this working FYI. Thx... Never hurts to ask... If I can shoehorn it to work I'll post it.

Don't ask me for the legal aspects of doing so, but running the mission editor needs no contact to the central authentication server. As long as you use just one copy for flying and the other for missions editing I think that's fair use. The publisher might have some more data traffic that way - you compensate this buying all the add-ons they offer
JimTM Posted October 6, 2019 Posted October 6, 2019 (edited) FYI, if you have a stand-alone DServer installed (see pg. 167 in the editor manual) on another machine, you can open the editor in that install. The stand-alone DServer is a stripped-down version of IL-2 BoX but I'm assuming that there are no limitations for that editor. For a single-player mission, you would need to copy the mission over to your full IL-2 BoX install mission directory, open it in that editor and resave it. Edited October 6, 2019 by JimTM
