Bang for Buck pc upgrade (HELP)

Ah, forgot to mention, these new motherboards (Z390) are coming with 8+4 pins for the CPU power cable (mainly because of the i9-9900K). Your PSU might have just an 8 pin CPU power cable. But don't worry, the extra 4 pin is for overclock, so if you don't have an 8+4 pin CPU power cable, just plug the 8 pin and leave the 4 pin connector for when you overclock it. Just don't split the power cable with 4 pins on the 8 pin connector and 4 pins on the extra 4 pin connector. Just use it all on the 8 pin connector and leave the extra 4 empty.

I used just with a 8 pin connector for a few months without a problem with my Z390 UD. Then I searched around and found a power cable (another 8 pin connector / split in two 4 pins) for sale on Aliexpress (just exactly the same that came with my Corsair RM750W). There was a slot available on the PSU and I used it. If your PSU is not modular, you will have to buy a new one to overclock the i7 (which you should in my opinion). People don't advise to get a splitter and use the same port for a 8+4 pin cable. It might be too much power to draw from just one port.

Not many PSUs come with a 8+4 pin connector. EVGA had some models I think, but it is not a premium brand. Better to get a mid tier modular Seasonic / Corsair and try to find beforehand an extra power connector if the PSU has an extra slot for it.

Thanks for the tip, though my evga PSU did come with two 4+4 cpu connectors so I plugged them all in right away. I'm not getting great temps at idle though so i'm going to buy  a better thermal paste before trying to get to 5 ghz, right now, i'm staying at 4,8 just to keep things cool.
