MarcoRossolini Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I've been kept out of Il-2 for a long time now due to rl and my computer's (seeming) death. But just recently I finally managed to get something of it running and fired up the old BoS to see what has happening... My god... I'm addicted. I'm blown away. I'm loving it! I've never flown a full hardcore WWII FS in multiplayer. I can't believe what I've missed. Primarily I've flown the LaGG-3 because you just have got to fly the underdog don't you? I knew and expected to die often and I have and I haven't even touched a 109 yet. None of that matters. The joy, the thrill of the combat in this game is enough. I'm loving it. Thanks a million 777-1c! Change nothing, you're on the right track! 8
J4SCrisZeri Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Già, niente malaccio eh? In multiplayer fanno a striscie anche me, di brutto, ma é fantastico comunque. Poi non ti dico quando ho inchiodato il mio primo bf109. Da brivido. I've been kept out of Il-2 for a long time now due to rl and my computer's (seeming) death. Requiem Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Look out, Marco is in the house Welcome to BoS mate
Georgio Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Welcome to the party; it's only going to get better as well!

216th_Peterla Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Same here mate, its not only you...just enjoy like we are doing it, do we?
sallee Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 It's all right, John cage. There must be someone who likes you as well...but we can like this sim as well....
MarcoRossolini Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Thanks everyone. I can't wait to actually manage (somehow) to shoot down a 109 now, I've managed now to knock a few holes in them but my aim is so terrible that it's been very difficult, as well as having to work out the deflection as well. Would anyone know how the reflector gunsight works on the laGG? I mean in regards to the lines and such, I understand those can be used to determine range but I don't know what the scale is. @Scriszeri, sorry I'm Australian, my sole knowledge of Italian is from Primary school. Honestly I'm really looking forward to getting up into the skies again.

Funny thing is you are running in exactly same Soviet pilots problems than 73 years ago...
Dutch Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 this topic again Do people get paid for posting things like this? If so, I'm in. I'll say anything they like.
FlatSpinMan Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Well, boys. You heard johnnycage and Dutch, - no enjoying this game, and no posts about same! Seriously, johnnycage and Dutch, if you don't like the thread, just ignore it. Why rain on someone else's parade?
Finkeren Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Would anyone know how the reflector gunsight works on the laGG? I mean in regards to the lines and such, I understand those can be used to determine range but I don't know what the scale. Except when using rockets, I have never used any part of the recticle other than the crosshairs. To hit anything you have to go so close, that bullet drop is practically irrelevant. Contrary to RoF however, the speeds are so high that you do have to practice a good deal of deflection shooting, even when attacking from close to dead six. If you want to shoot down 109s in the LaGG, it's a good idea to start out against the AI and not jump right into multiplayer. We all learn from our mistakes, but we also need at least some successes to know what we're doing right, and human pilots in 109s just doesn't leave you much chance to experience that. Welcome Marco. I hope you continued to have a great time.
rlk281 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 One of my first OMG moments was during the LaGG intercept mission on the small map, when I just happened upon the Stukas rolling, and diving, one after the other, on their targets, and the mayhem that ensued for the next 10 hair-raising minutes or so...

You're not going to get many chances so map the mg's and cannon to one button as you want maximum firepower for the oportunities you get.

You're not going to get many chances so map the mg's and cannon to one button as you want maximum firepower for the oportunities you get. I do not quite agree. I am practicing ground attacks in IL-2 using QMB now. I check all ground targets except AA because I first of all want to improve my shooting/bombing/aiming skills. When attacking car colums I use only MGs - they are enough to destroy all cars. On trains - few rounds of 23mm cannons will do destroy the locomotive. Bombs I save for tanks - here I lack the most ATM, but it's getting better . When I run out of bombs I use the remaining (high cailbre) cannon shells against tanks. Managed to destroy few of them that way.
MarcoRossolini Posted April 7, 2014 Author Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) Someone along the way someone recommended the 23mm cannon... Tried it and it's excellent. The loss in performance is negligible to my mind and the reward (knocking the tail off a 109 in one shot) is so good... I've been taking off in the full and certain knowledge that I won't get a kill and will probably die in strange and gory ways... It appears i got more than I bargained for when I went from 0 kills last session to 4 this session. Just don't ask about the number of times I've died... Loving it still!
