Guest deleted@134347 Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 hi, all, I can't seem to figure out the rad controls for the new shiny Tempest. Per the specifications sheet the pilot is supposed to control the Water and Oil radiators. In game, however, I found the following: 1) Water radiator control only 2) The water radiator either is fully closed (0%) or goes to fully open (100%) with a single press of a button 3) none of the Oil radiator control bindings work am I taking crazy pills here or this is the reality? ?
Talon_ Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Open for ground and steep climbs, otherwise closed. There's a reason it's so massive - who needs automatic systems!

Yes, water rad control is either open or closed, no in-between. You can keep it closed in level flight and keep an eye on the temp. gauge. There are no oil radiator controls.
danielprates Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 That seemed odd to me too when I first saw it. But I assume it's 100% historical and well researched. Curious design choice by Hawker, tho. A fully-opened-only setting seems like overkill in some situations, I imagine that during a climb probably only a small increment would suffice. And it extends so outwardly too, like 45 degrees or so! The designers were probably thinking mostly about taking away concerns from a pilot who already has too much to deal with. "Just open it in those two or three situations, otherwise, keep it always closed and don't think about it anymore."

I guess the spec sheet needs to be corrected to the realities of the modeled game experience, otherwise it's a tad confusing.
Matt Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 The oil cooler is the round cooler in the middle of the radiator. So the flap which you can open and close basically works as both radiator flap and oil cooler flap at the same time. It kind of works like on the P-40. So maybe the outer coolant shutter control should've been used instead of the radiator control, but i think people will get used to it.
356thFS_Melonfish Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 I had her galloping off the runway and all over the place and I didn't touch the radiator once, glycol temps stayed around 100°c the entire time, oil remained above 60°c no issues with that, you can fly her all day. Pete

EAF19_Marsh Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Open for circuits or a high-power climb at low speed but otherwise it can generally stay shut. The Tempest is just beautiful ???
78thFG_Slider Posted October 1, 2019 Posted October 1, 2019 Mine are completely not working. I tried different bindings, but neither rad or trim work on the TEmpest.
