Waiting for the weather to clear so I can head up into the mountains.

Yes, I do that as well. Sometimes, I even put the sim on active pause and just zoom in on the screen, doing the settings I want.

It could be nice if one had such a thing as an external USB device, same as there are radio stacks.

X-Plane's system where you could pop the things out was pretty good.

But you can't fly underneath that pretty Sydney Harbour bridge, you always have a collision. But you can cros it if you fly along the road underneath the arch.

Sometime, this makes me wonder if MS just used this flight simulator as a pretext to patch up Bing maps for free with everything that's missing there.

Preordered this. I was going to get rid of my honeycomb yoke. But it is actually very nice to fly with . Switches suits the smaller planes.

Due to lack of space I wonder what to do with my old panels. They are buildt by a fellow in california, I simply do not use them much.

Keeping my old throttle atm, it is so great for GB.

I was planning for something more expencive, but frankly , I might be fed up by the time the gadget arrive. And Honeycomb is so easy to sell

High end is not, Sim flyers are cheap bastards

I am sort of a non plastic guy, I accept composite where it is in real planes, This throttle is pure plastic and it shows. I had a internal struggle buying it, but I know I easily get rid of it if I cannot stand it. I am sick and a bit proud I bought it despite my sickness for extremely expencive hardware. Not at all explainable in term of time using it.

I train myself to be smart, knowing I am not

I hope the trim is good. That would be nice. I find the double trim levels on the yoke awkward in smaller planes.
The reverse handles good instead of buttons for turbo props.
And I hope the gear leveler do not have a cheap feel to it

Hmm I am glad I did not see this version before ordering??

Someone needs to make a mod of that Honeycomb throttle with WW2 style balls on the top of the throttles then that thing would look good!

A cessna bobcat bomber trainer from 1942. Bought it from the us of a. The sliders connected to it start to wear out. I try to figure a way to use hall sensors

They really need to add ray traced GI sooner rather than later. The artist placed lights do a decent job of things, but even this janky screen space RTGI look kinda nuts.

Didn't need to.
And the download was somewhere around 300MB only, not the 70+GB as was suspected.

Nope guys.

Calm down and take release notes for what they are.

The description starts with:

Quote

The latest patch is available for download at 1700Z (10am PDT) today. To install the patch, simply close Microsoft Flight Simulator and relaunch. However, if you have experienced installation issues, we strongly advise you to do a clean install of Microsoft Flight Simulator by following the steps below

I know that M$ bashing seems to be the order of the day, but if you don't want to make a complete idiot of yourself, you should better stick to what's been written for real.

And dare I say: There's nothing wrong with it.

In contrast, there's zero information in any of the official IL-2 Great Battles patches on how to proceed if your update fails.

I had a hassle free (Steam) install and the patch went right in.

All in all the sim runs very well, no complaints.

Same but non Steam. I can't fault this release at all.

And...

It's freaking gorgeous. The eye-candy remains stunning on just about every new flight I take. I'm at 1080p but I'm seriously considering upgrading to handle 1440p.

Am I seeing a slight performance improvement in terms of overall smoothness and a slight gain in fps or is this a placebo effect?

SAS_Storebror

Could be placebo.

FPS and smoothness pretty much depend on where I fly and for how long I let the game settle (and load the quadrozillions of textures to render) before I actually jump the seat.

I had no problems, but what I got out of this update info, it only fixed some ctd and freezing problems I did not have in the first place.
What I hope is to get my 6 saitek flight pro instruments gauges to work with it. They do work with x plane I do not use

Well it is the software you add to the sim that is the problem.  Logitech has not yet adapted it to this sim.
As I understand it none of current gps hardware are compatible.
I heard this is a communication thing between developers and MS, since third party build planes for this sim I guess software to run gadget is around the corner.
I am not Blaming MS, I only get good vibes , I haven't spent such amount of time in a sim for a long time

I hesitate to do this, it run smooth in 1080 , will it on 1440?

Well it does run super smooth in 1440p on my i5-9600K + Nvidia 2080S, in custom settings which are based on the "high" settings profile.

There's just the odd occasion when I fly through the Tower Bridge at full speed and look left and right in TrackIR which gets the game to stutter a bit.

The trackir glitch will be there in a 1080 too.
I was optimg for a Reverb 2 but considering the hardware I got, VR is not what I really want for this sim. I might invest in a better screen instead. I simply do not miss VR at all.

I think so, yes.

IL-2 Great Battles also has a hard time when looking right and left quickly.

It's simply the amount of texture going in and out of view - as soon as it's more than the GPU can keep in it's cache, you'll get a certain FPS impact.

I guess that's why the M$ devs were so reluctant to provide TrackIR support from the beginning, and why they're still puzzled to include VR support.

With a 3080 it probably would.

But I don't have one. :(

I'll probably stay at 1080, but I would like a 32" screen.

Is this most affected by the size/speed of vram?

If so, it's disappointing that the RTX 2070 and 2080 aren't coming with much more ram than the current gen. I'm not springing $1500 for a gpu.

I would with time. I am not entirely sure I will fly that much , making it worth while.
I rather sit back with my current gear and wait to see what people say about this super gpu. Then I also know my willingness   To spend this money.
I run a company, so I basically get it tax free, with money not going through sallary and tax.
still hard earned money, so it better count

the RTX 3080 is said to come with 10GB at a price of $700 which would be a good deal IMHO, however that's the founders edition and honestly you'll want to wait for custom designs with slightly more sophisticated cooling solutions anyway.

Probably done it on this too.
Again, thank you. You should do this for a living, saving my money

I don't notice a performance increase since the patch, but loading times have definitely improved for me... I also hope the problem of crashes when disconnecting X box controller, (I use it for looking around in drone view) have been rectified... not had a chance to check that yet.
