It's strange when there's so much money involved it can be such a screw up. I bought it on steam so hopefully won't run into so many problems (famous last words)

Microsoft is evil. We need Microsoft skins on planes in IL2 so we can shoot them down.

In a desperate attempt I bought basis on steam just to see and same thing happened.
This problems started after a windows update. I wonder if that got something to do with it

The Steam version is just a portal to the MS site. You pay through Steam and get the exe. but the rest is still through Microsoft.

Those little turds even locked my sim up and wouldn't let me back in until I coughed up a phone number. They are such a-holes.

Well now I can fly it on my other computer.
I installed a restore software that should be able to find broken files like DLL.

Damn thing crash and restart my pc during update

When it runs with default settings it has unconstrained framerate and in menus like the update screen it tortures your GPU. Your power supply's protection likely tripped and hence the restart. Try setting a framerate cap in your GPU driver's options initially and then investigate why stressing it causes a restart. Restarts are not normal and a sign that some surge or transient protection kicked in to prevent damage.

I know this sounds simple but -

please check the file path closely...make sure it is pointed at the correct directory/file path.

So many issues !!!???

OK ... now you guys did it !

I thought to -finally- buy MSFS 2020 while it will be on Steam sale ... probably starting December 22.

But instead I better buy the only 3 remaining il-2 DLC, and the very few DCS modules I do not yet own.

So now ... I am p*ssed off by you guys ?? ?

You killed that sim for me ... may MS have pity on your souls !

It is hell when it starts. But when fixed it is just marvellous.  If you find a plane you like. It is absolutely mind blowing.
And while it work it run super smooth. Compared to last time I used it.

It seems you are right. It all started with DC 6 refusing to get 1,2 and 4 engines to work.
that started with me crossfeeding it’s tanks with wrong procedure.
after that there was no chance getting those engines to start. Not even when you started in air.
I uninstalled the game in order to get a healthy dc6. Because uninstalling the plane did not do the trick.
so my advice is when fiddling with crossfeeding

do it right.
anyway I put all global settings off for msfs in Nvidia control and now it is half way in update

Thanks Lusekofte. In my 'rant' I was only joking of course. But more seriously, I will buy msfs but still not sure that is such a good idea knowing msfs and VR needs the fastest pc people can buy!?

I got a 5 year old i7 and a 3080. Using g2

I think it run vr better than dcs

Honestly, you kinda need all three sims - DCS, IL2, and MSFS - if you are a real flightsimhead. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but each one does something the others don't and each one is pushing a different part of the envelope.

I fly much more DCS than IL2 and MSFS combined, but I still want all three so I can see what's going on as far as flightsim tech goes.

Thanks CanadaOne.

You are right of course.

For me there is also il-2 Clod and Elite dangerous.

But I need that one more... MSFS 2020, mainly because it is a sim I really want to try to know why everyone here seems to be so enchanted by it!?

I deleted GB have clod, DCs and msfs

I reinstall GB when I stopped being fed up about it. I have drained GB for what it’s worth. DC 3 and JU 52 I can fly in msfs. And they feel pretty similar

Il2 definitely has a certain certain charm about it. Though the "mission editor" is as user friendly and enjoyable as taking out your own appendix, the quality of the A2A is great. The spotting, the colourful graphics and atmospherics, and the fluid FPS are first rate. DCS can't compare for big fat WWII furballs.

For those things, and the improvements to come, it stays on my SSD.

It allows you to fly anywhere in the world, on a potato computerk, whilst setting a new standard for all flight sims.  My CPU will be eleven years old in a couple of weeks....

Yeah I'm just loving flying around in it on my old computer, looks amazing! I'm currently just bored with shooting at stuff and blowing it up, but I have been doing it for over 2 decades now so probably need a break. Even in il2 and DCS I was just taking off and flying around in the end so MSFS is a logical step for me. Funny I was totally uninterested in it for years.

I really like GB for some things. But I can’t use it for the planes I really like. It became such a frustration that I decided to take it away from my sight over x mad and probably until late next year. I hope this new thing going on contain a more complex DM

all I ask for is a possibility once out of twenty to get to crash land. Like we did before.
But enough of that. It seems I fixed that install problem. In msfs

I have x plane 11. It got better choppers and probably better system for study sim. But it simply is no fun flying low in it.
I get it that modern  passenger pilots prefer it. You only need good skies and a couple of good payware airports. That all you see anyway. Flying this. Well no sim to date can really compare. It is a game changer for civ. sim for me. No matter what hardcore 737 pilots say, they might have a point. But it do not affect my use of this sim.  In GB I prefer planes like ju 52 and C 47. Well they are in this too

Yeah I have no interest in jet airliners really, currently loving the DC6 flying cargo around lol. I might get a twin, either the 310 or 414, not decided yet. I was always a twin guy in il2, 110's in coop, PE2's etc. Having a bit of fun with navigation now, vor etc.

I am rather fond of the De Haviland Twin Otter. I used to be a passenger a lot in them up here north.
It is an excellent bush plane. But I recommend doing the training sessions

It give a insight of proper technique and I find myself flying Cessna around in local area , because it is a good plane and the most likely you end up in

The F28 might be a candidate, though.

It's basicly a jet DC-3.

I might actually have some time to fly next week being off of work and kid at day care. Any good payware planes to recommend that might be on sale? WW2 or Bush planes?

Posted

Looking at the reviews none of the ww2 era planes reach 4 of 5 they are in 2 to 3 range.
For bush planes there is a great deal of 1 and 2 engined planes. I got a Cessna 19 L? If I remember correctly. I go and test it now

L 19 was actually fun to fly with great sound First I* bought

Beaver is a winner though

The Parallel 42 Freedomfox package through Orbx is amazing. It has the great kitfox with 4 variants and quite a few amazing sceneries.

I love the Twin Otter.
When I fly I see these rediciolus skins on the airliners. Do that mean I cannot see their real skin?

Also, if I fly a Twin Otter can everyone see I fly a Twin Otter even if they do not have it installed?

Due to optimizations they only see one otter.

Wasn't going to buy any more MSFS planes... but I really like the looks of this one. And $30 ain't too bad and it got some good reviews.

Looking for a plane to explore in. This one looks fast enough to cross some open terrain and can slow down for some sightseeing. And I like the MFD maps and gadgets.

Maybe.... maybe...

I bought the P 38 for the same reason.
I flown some common planes over time. And I come to one conclusion. Cessna 152 is pretty close to reality. I had a helluva problem keeping it level in rl too

I guess it's like DCS, you keep buying planes until the find the one you love.

And then you keep buying planes anyway.

Spent a couple of hours flying around Ireland in my new 414, then took a 152 up around Fuessen and Neuschwanstein castle to have a look at the area, as I visited IRL a few years ago. still learning the systems in the 414 but very happy I bought it. Then a quick spin around Reykjavik in the Goose just as the sun was setting and a water landing!
Definitely still in the honeymoon period with this sim, absolutely loving it.
Edit: Unlike in DCS where I have most aircraft and fly hardly any of them, I'm trying to be very selective in MSFS.

Oh so true.  Quick roll call of my MSFS hanger queens;

the Bleriot,

MB339

All the Reno stuff

 Chipmunk

 P40

the err….German/French thing

Stearman

another bi plane

the Mooney

the Seminole

Ju 52

Starfighter

I could go on….really.

What have I discovered? The stock Cessna 172 with steam gauges that’s included in the game is one of the best ‘planes available….. and it’s free.

Now, should I get the Cardinal? It’s on sale…..so probably.?
