The Russian analog system I have no problem with.

Archie Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 Been watching some youtube vids on the sim DC 6 today, that thing looks incredible, and probably what I need just now, got a bit bored with shooting stuff or blowing it up in il2 and DCS recently. I'll give it a few days and see if there's a Steam sale for the game this month.

I like to fly the DC 3 an Twin Otter too. Like in DCS you end up with far too many planes. And some of them are just duplicates with different pixels. DC 6 gives me the opportunity to learn old fashion navigation and flying while I fly

Yes here I bought mine through Orbx. It came as a bundle with the 'Amphibious Ready Group' and the 'USS George Bush'. There was also an offer from Miltech whereby, along with the multiple 'George Bush' locations they placed around the globe, I could select a location of my own. I think it's a great value bundle and the aircraft is really good. 1

It did a Great job for many years, but was a complex aircraft. Very expencive to maintain 1
ZachariasX Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 MSFS has the nasty habit of placing gliders on the runway spawn points of the motor planes. This makes it impossible to take of from a good many glider airfields, unless you set a great lot of headwind. At LSZX, where I used to fly, you simply dont't want to try to start a tow from the default spawn poins: The red mark indicates where gliders are in fact placed for tow. Putting the glider at the center of the landing zone is way too much forward, as the tow is placed way in front of that and there is not enough runway left. The grey spot at the end of the concrete shows the gravel specifically put there to place the glider without it sinking in the swamp. (The whole area is a somewhat drained swamp.) I bought the airfield (by AG SIM) from the in game store, and still the issue persisted, making aero-tow impossible. Which is a shame, as (IRL) the electrified railroad track just parallel to the runway negates the use of a winch. So I sent this with details as a bug report. I got an almost immediate response (on a weekend!). Two days later, they made an update mending the issue: As it still takes time for the update to appear in the MSFS store (now ASOBO takes their time for testing, as they seemingly are getting in holiday mode), I was gifted the scenery on flightsim.to, where the update is already uploaded to. Remarkable customer support! Still, on any other airfield, gliders are wrongly placed for tow and you require long runways to make up for it. I wonder when of if they ever adress the issue. The dev that responded to my inquiry wasn't even sure at first wether he even can change those spawn points, but he obviously quickly found a way. MSFS is certainly a game of extremes. It can be extremely good... or, just like last weekend, when the MS Store by itself decided to not really be available for some days on my gaming rig, I just got stuck withe the "Insert Game Disc" error on startup. Just when you think you've seen it all, then they surely deliver. After a couple of days, it worked again.

You can use the kinetic assistant app, it has a “push” function that allows you to move gliders around.
Archie Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Well, caved in and bought the standard edition last night, just need to set it up now. Not seen a download that slow for quite some time lol. 1

Definitely going to have to do some rearranging soon.

I'm determind not to go mad with doownloading stuff for it (he says...) the install is currently on a 500GB ssd by itself but no doubt it will have to move to a bigger one eventually. Still setting up controls, a bit clunky after il2. Not sure I'll ever be happy to go back to a non photorealistic sim now though 2

Archie Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 Caved again and bought the DC-6, not spent too much time on it, still setting up controls but what a beauty it is. I think I'm set sim wise for a few months now.
Lusekofte Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 OH dear, I wrecked the DC 6. It will only start engine 3, even if I am on the runway with spawn with engine on only 3 will run

I had issues just opening their 'operations centre' until I read a random post about changing dpi compatibility settings! Having never used msfs before this is a bit of a learning curve for me, especially after pretty much 'plug and play' il2. 1

I do not even know where it’s at. I deleted the plane and reinstalled it but that did not help. I was playing around with crossfeeding fuel during flight when these 3 engines shut down. I guess some files within the game got messed up. I will probably delete the game and reinstall it if not getting it fixed.
Lusekofte Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 The damn sim won’t reinstall. Never buy this from ms store. Use Steam. There is countless solutions for such problems and take hours every one of them.
Lusekofte Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 (edited) Damn thing crash and restart my pc during update after reinstall. Even in safe mode and running as a admin it just loop searching for update. When restarted.
