As I've not been able to actually go flying for some time I splashed out on a new PC and monitor then got this sim properly configured. Christ on a bike it's good, set myself a goal of flying round the med and down to the bottom of Africa then back to the UK. Not as good as flying but it keeps my brain working. The graphics are just sublime sometimes and the persistent state available in the 310 means you need to take care of the engines. And yes, I should have closed the ATC box before I took the screenshot.

...

Nice pics! That Cessna 310R is very well done and fun to fly. I love the "tuna tanks" on the wingtips.

How's that World Update II for US?

To save SSD space I only have US scenery downloaded and installed on my PC.

Not yet, just not enough free time these days and I've just now got the 414, the 310 and now the Beech with barely enough time to fly those.

It is getting really good reviews though.

Mixed feelings for me: Awesome detail, really impressive!!!! But not for me. I'm not into " procedure" simulators. Never understood the fascination for airliners.

My fascinating for airliners are when I try them, and actually manage to land them.

But not being able to fly under Bridges inverted , put me off again

Boeings can be sexy!

Any idea what those specifically are? The 737 is grandfathered into oblivion in that regard anyway.

As I understand it, the standards for the crew alert system changed due to the accidents (and FAA getting crap for just letting boeing have their way and look the other way) and require a more organized warning instead of the blinkenlights distriubuted throughout the panels. Missing the December 2022 certification deadline, the plane would be required to have a reorganized flight deck. But a reorganized flight deck makes it impossible to let previous crews just fly that crate without much added training, hence the old tube in that case has no purpose to exist. The 777X faces a somewhat similar problem. Boeing is deeply reluctant changing their alert systems and the whole process thus takes way too long. Not providing solid timelines to the FAA for delivering documents for certification is grounds of the MAX10 (and 777X) not getting certified. Before, Boeing did everything themelves. Now FAA who set the timeframe for documentation and Boeing has to deal with that. And they are certainly not used to such a procedure.

Is there any large airframe project over at Boeing thats not a burning pile of dung right now? The MAX is dead (way beyond the ability to break even). So is supposedly the 787 and the 777X is approaching that mark also. The KC-46 is another money-burner. Have they solved all the issues there?

It's hard keeping track of all the mamangement cock-ups that have turned a once great industry-leader into a laughingstock.

Sigh….Brems old boy;  you forget that what might seem to a rational person like yourself a management cock up, is to us Brits and our cousins across the Atlantic a product of ‘shareholder value’?

This means if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing cheaply.  It matters not that they make aeroplanes. They could be making paper clips.

As long as the share price keeps up, all management decisions will be blinkered, short term ones. Thus Boeing find themselves in the mess they are.

This is part of the reason why Germany still has industries that make things, whereas we merely shop in China….

My apologies for being unusually cynical. It’s a beautiful summers day, I’ve just come back from the beach and I’m watching a re-run of last nights TV debate between the five gnomes, one of whom will be the next leader of our country.

God help us…..?

I'm afraid, we're also fixing that at the moment. And we've been heading that way for some time already.

Looking forward to bending paperclips as well ?

The world is in a rapid state of decay and the curve is steepening.

The state of the airline industry is just one of many, many indicators.

Have fun flying Hoo Flung Poo airlines...papers please.

Oh yeah, first it was the HK-1, from "Henry Kayser", a shipbuilder who ... well I suppose nowadays we would say he "kickstarted" the project, then Hughes took over and it became the H-4 Hercules. Hercules wasnt fond of "spruce goose".
