AndyJWest Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 The Boeing 247D has been released. Dirt cheap (£14.67), and a real quality product, by all accounts. They seem to have taken simulation to a whole new level, with persistent engine states, etc. Apparently you even need to select the right oil grade depending on where you are flying!

AndyJWest Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 The Boeing 247D in all its glory. You can see where the B-17 got its looks from: Wing spars crossing the cabin were less than optimal: The pit of confusion. Nothing looks like you'd expect it to, or works like you'd expect it to either. It took me forever to start the engines, though I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. Seems to handle well enough, though I was probably doing something wrong - I was bimbling along happily enough until I noticed I'd got zero oil pressure for both engines. While trying to figure that out, I had a CTD, which may or may not have been related. Given how complex it is, bugs are to be expected though, so I'm not too concerned. Tomorrow, I will read the manual properly. And try to figure out how to land it. No flaps, and no idea what the approach speed is supposed to be... 3 1
Monostripezebra Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 The boeing looks really awesome! Meanwhile, I got the Dornier Wal, knowing it is just another "low fidelity" Asobo thingy.. but the Wal has always been one of my most favourite aircrafts, historically. And while it has the to-be-expected things.. I find it actually not bad, the main positive side (appart from beeing a Wal) is that they did something to the water behaviour and it acutally has more resonable water physics closer to a flying boat at higher speeds (at very slow speed, they still suck, though)
AndyJWest Posted April 3, 2022 Posted April 3, 2022 Another first for MSFS: Not sure whether I overrevved the engines, or just overheated them. On the plus side, only one caught fire when they stopped... 1 1

Yeah, the sounds in all the sims I’ve ever used can be ‘variable’? but the thing I was referring to was the sim itself and it’s sometimes astonishing ability to recreate familiar scenes. The little corner of the UK I live in really does look like this from three thousand feet?. 2

Maybe land near Rosario/Orcas Island and gas up. Float plane please. Drop dead gorgeous - in a different way. I have a fantasy about living in Britain somewhere in the country. Yorkshire perhaps.
56RAF_Roblex Posted April 4, 2022 Posted April 4, 2022 Way way back, I used to have an addon that allowed me to fly Amelia Earharts last route in her Electra and the airfields were all 1937 versions. I don't suppose that ever got remade.
Gambit21 Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 Holy Crap. I can't believe that the tiny, dangerous little airport where I live is in MSFS 202...I was sure it wouldn't be. I just may have to do this. Take off, fly to Orcas or Friday Harbor...come home. When this guy got to near the end of the strip I thought I saw my truck drive by on the main road there where that white fence is. Damn Camano Island Airport 2

Damn Camano Island Airport A challenging landing for sure and a nice environment. I flew from Victoria to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island in the C280 the other day and really enjoyed the flight. I'm looking forward to exploring this beautiful area some more (including Camano Island). I'll have to look at the Kodiak since the reviews are so good. Edited April 6, 2022 by JimTM 2
Gambit21 Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 If I do this I’ll definitely need a few “Top Drawer” plane recommendations. Float planes included. Is this product fairly stable now as far as not constantly requiring huge updates? That’s my limiting factor at 350 KBS on average. Yes that’s KILO-bytes.

Gambit21 Posted April 6, 2022 Posted April 6, 2022 I'm trying to figure out which one of you finally got my willy up for this sim after I've flat out rejected it for reasons above since day one. Not even a waver. I think it was this...CUJO!! ? Plus me looking up my local airport...but I did it finally probably because of these pics...just beautuful. Oh well. With any luck I'll by flying the F-4 over Argentina or at least Nellis in a few months. 3
CUJO_1970 Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 Glad I could help, lol. To be honest - I consider it to be the best value in pretty much any piece of gaming/sim software and it's only going to get better. 1
Gambit21 Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 I think between DCS, MSFS and IL2 I’d be in a state of download 20 days a month.

Downloading now!" 1 1

I took a little recce of your part of the world Gambit. ??? I think you’d find Yorkshire....quaint? 1

He was completely amazed (in a positive way) at the fact that you could sit in an aircraft in a flightsim, having your engines on fire after what seemed to be a nominal engine-runup before take-off ? 1

AndyJWest Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 A nice little freebie - a Wedell-Williams Model 44. This is the one that Roscoe Turner flew. Doesn't come with a pet lion, unfortunately... Yes, the forward view is as bad as you'd expect. You just have to hope that nobody is coming the other way. Flight model seems ok, though almost certainly too tame. Landing is tricky because of the lack of view, and because without flaps it takes ages to stop. Download: https://flightsim.to/file/31689/wedell-williams-model-44-1-00 2
CUJO_1970 Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 (edited) lol mandatory update: a whopping 127 GiB...how is that even possible? An update that size makes me worry something is wrong with my install. I'm setting a timer and testing my dedicated fiber line...interesting to see how long this takes. So far pace is 28 Gig in ~28 minutes...is that good? Update...74 Gigs in 63 minutes...only 52 Gig to go, lol. Edited May 15, 2022 by CUJO_1970

CUJO_1970 Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 lol 2 hour 127 GiB download, open profile/content manager to find another 70GiB download waiting. Love the sim, but this is a bit ridiculous...why in the hell am I re-downloading everything?
