I don’t remember anyone bringing back naughty publications on our school trips to France.

I do remember the flick knives and how they soon broke after they were thrown at trees, grass, one’s own feet, etc but it was those red French bangers that everyone would bring back!!

For a couple of weeks after any trip, school would be dominated by the sounds of them going off at any time and the Head’s threats of retribution would be more and more dire during school assembly?

Actually ‘yer honour, I’d like to now confess that after my big brother came home on Christmas leave 1977 with some pyrotechnics, it was yours truly of 4C that threw the thunder flash into the lower school toilets and set off the police investigation!

The Ju52 seems to be available now as well, in the store for 15$. It seems to feature 2 and 3 blased props, but all I can see are the P&W engines, not the BMW's... But it has skis and floats. Hm. Maybe. The Electra looks really cool.

I wait for some reviews.

4 different versions: wheels, skis and floats, plus a modern retrofit on wheels. Not sure about the engines in each version.

Flight model could be better (stalls too slow), but otherwise a bargain for the price. The 3D modelling is very good, they've not skimped on details (the upper cockpit window makes a nice clunk when you close it!) and most of the more obvious cockpit gadgets seem to work.

Got it now.  Very nice indeed.  Looks great and the engine sounds are especially pleasant on the ear.  Some sim planes can really make you struggle in that department.  I really like how you can look out at the port engine and see the heat haze from the exhaust too.

My whole life I’ve been assuming any mention of the Electra was referring to the twin, then gone “oh...” when it turned out to be the other one.  It’s nice for it to be the other way around for a change.

All right. All right I got the message. It is a cool wonderful sim.

We stop posting pictures now. I have no time at the moment with the hazzle of fix.

So until I got time lets agree shutting this topic down.

Flying iron just released their P-38.  I was very happy with their Spitfire, so I think there will be some sim dollars going their way this weekend.  Looks fantastic.

I gotta say.. I am a bit disapointed with the Ju 52.. as much as one can´t argue with the price and the variants and visual quality of the models, the flightmodel just falls short where the Ju52 is fun: outlanding and precision landing, that thing is so floaty and has a weird energy retention, even at full crap angle and flaps out.

Yeah, there are definitely flight model issues. But damn, it looks good!

Back to my favourite Bond-villain lair. It's up here somewhere:Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-Screenshot-20

6,500 ft or so above sea level, so probably a little chilly. Except that it comes with a built-in underlake heating system. Wikipedia says it is 5-7 °C warmer than you'd expect a lake this high to be . A little on the acidic side too, but I'm not going to stay long.

No wind to speak of, fortunately, since I have to take off the way I came in. You can turn Auntie Ju fairly well by using one engine.

You don't often get the opportunity to descend immediately after takeoff in a floatplane. Off to find a beach somewhere....

The Ju is stunning optical wise, but the FM is definetly off. Feels as if the plane has no mass and no inertia. This thing takes off after 80m or so...

But nevertheless I'm enjoying it big time!

Every time I watch MFS 2020 videos of these aircraft I just have a desperate whish to start IL-2....

It's a completely different league in ALL aspects, from ground physics do flight dynamics, damage model, etc...

I just dream of the day 1C/777 announces "World coverage" and "Civil Aircraft"...

And there would be market for it !!! How ? Simple:

- There simply is no easy way to replicate in X-Plane, FSX, P3D, or now MFS, the Gloden Ages of aviation, the early decades of the 20th Century, from a civil aviation point of view, with good / historic scenery, the kind of navigation aids that were available back then, etc...

I am almost sure a tittle offering access to that Golden Age of Aviation would be a launch day buy for many users of civil flightsims ...

Yeah.. me too. There is probably never going to be the perfect flight sim.. but that does not mean one can´t find fun. The junkers is really fun in some stiff winds on the Orkneys and shetlands

Enjoying the Hawker Seahawk from RobCarrich at the moment.  Managed to make my way across Canada in the Rapide, then made the jump to Maniitsoq in Greenland in the Spit.

The Seahawk seemed to have the legs to get me right across Greenland to Kulusuk on the east coast, so I loaded up on fuel and prepared to have a go.

aj7bGGQ.jpg

The weather was fantastic for the most part.  I went up to 20k and cruised there most of the way.

12PLUt3.jpg

At some point well into the journey, I looked down at what I took to be a solid overcast of gently rippled cloud.  It looked a lot like the stripey cloud layers you get in Rise of Flight and BoX.  I decided to gradually let down through it to see what the landscape looked like beneath.   As I came down to 10,000ft the lines were more distinct  As the altimeter wound down towards 9,000 I prepared to enter the cloud layer...

qMBjPkt.jpg

Crunch!  Black screen...

I had crashed belly first into the top of the mountainous glacier.  What I took to be the tops of the striped cloud layer was in fact the wind blown lines of the snow covered ice beneath an otherwise clear sky  ?

I'll have to try again next time.  If you want to crash into something yourself, the Seahawk is here:

Yes, I also found out that it can come handy having gear lowered when flying in the (ant)arctic. It is actually an all too common occurence in the real world as well.

The cockpit is acceptable.  Basically FSX quality with updated gauges.  The exterior is good too, although I find it too glossy from some angles and it has that wet look like BoX aircraft used to have.

I know why I like fixed SKI!

The junkers is a bit atrocious to control on those skiing adventures.. but they can be quite cool. It only took me the equivalent of a german transportluftflotte in scrapmetal to visit the sphinx-observatory.

I gotta say, the outside Seahawk looks amazing.. I always loved those!

I think someone should put together a list of the aircraft that are top-drawer in all areas. Flight model, exterior, interior. Too much variability In content it seems.

I just ordered it, your list could be a welcome addition.

I am mainly interested in the small planes, not as much them big jets ..  like that Zenith CH701 STOL add-on.

So far I think only the DC-6 (PMDG) and Just Flight’s PA-28R Arrow III give most depht to the simulation. The DC-6 has the downside of having slightly absur modelled engine mechanics, but in principle you can do as they say in the manual, but it certainly doesn't simulate the engines even remotely correct. The Arrow is a simpler thing and more within what the current SDK can provide. I do not own it (I don't like the Arrow, even though it is a good aircraft), but from reviews, it seems to be consistently on top.

As for the rest... I mean you get plenty of airctaft with the sim and from what I see most publishers have a hard time really surpassing stock offerings, even though their FM often leaves lots to be desired. The stock Pitts is a particular monstrosity in that regard.

But for info on what is going on, that is an ok site:

Despite all its shortcomings, I have a lot of fun with the Ju52. I really find it has a nice fun-to-money ratio.
