Yeah what little bit I got to do before all the crashing to desktop started, it was a beauty in VR.

Man it sure takes a while to download and install the Premium Deluxe. Sure hoping this works.

No dice.

Soon as I enter cockpit and start my flight, blammo to desktop.

This is unreal. The only time it seemed to work proper was that initial install where I let it install to the default location.

Went through 3 training flights with no problem.

Ever since I decided to reinstall to a different drive, it has crashed when trying to fly.

Wonder if I can get a refund from Steam, showing over 10 hours of playtime and that was all installing it for the most part.

Anyone know how to reset it to install to default location? Apparently it is remembering my install location and even saving my controller setups.

How do I wipe it clean?

After uninstalling, it seems that you have to manually delete the folder

C:\Users\(you)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator

I guess it is where your profile related settings go and an inconsistency there could spell trouble. Did you check if the game runs if you create another user on your rig and launch the sim then?

As for deleting everything, you might have the folder that you specified for „downloading game files to“, the main file location. Check if that still exists and if so, delete it.

Check also the „save game“ folder in your profile if you have files there. Personally, I think it is a bad idea to use Steam and put another layer of complexity on something that is hardly understood. Check if the Steam Apps folder also created a directory or respective files. But I don‘t use Steam if I don‘t absolutely have to, mine is an installation from the MS store directly (also a PITA).

The install/uninstall routine is a total clusterf*ck.

Ok maybe I will give that a try.

For some reason my render scale was set to 80, I changed it to 100 and managed to get a couple training flights in this time, but yeah it soon after crashed to desktop again.

Or maybe better yet I should try one of my other games to make sure it is not the headset going south on me.

Your gpu temperature is ok? Power supply and all. Do not reinstall easily. It takes the whole day. Check how it does work with rubbish settings first. Read the internet for people experience similar and what they did.

Do not do anything too fast. There will be time for amusement later. Just take it easy going.

I had problems due to intel security software, I had to delete it

Welp I figured it out.

First I did go check out another game, no problems so I knew it was not the headset.

Got to looking in my settings, I had enabled Motion Smoothing in Steam VR for MSFS 2020. I like Motion Smoothing and prefer running with it on in both

IL-2 and DCS.

So I thought what the heck - I disabled it for MSFS 2020.

Problem totally disappeared, been flying MSFS solid ever since without any hiccup.

Don't know if it is a bug, or if I am not able to maintain 45 fps for Motion Smoothing and it is causing the game to crash or what.

But with it off there is no more crashing to desktop. Just stuttering now ugh.

Time to play with resolution and graphics settings. That will have to wait for another day though.

I will have to go post about this on their forums and see if others have seen the same.

I’m glad you got it going.  There’s no end of options available and it can be quite annoying at first.   I found this video really helped me in finding the right settings for best performance.

I have gone in and changed my settings for VR per this guy's recommendations for the Reverb G2 and MSFS 2020:

I especially took note of his recommendation to use OpenXR Developer Tools for Windows Mixed Reality. I set use latest preview to On and reprojection to Auto. I think it basically throws two interpolated frames in for every one frame, hence reducing the fps required to 30 instead of 45 for the Reverb G2. Yes I see some ghosting artifacts here and there but not too bad - plus with his graphics settings for VR I am getting  a very smooth stutter free experience running the sim like this. I will take less stutters any day with a little ghosting.   I have only done the solo flight in the 152 so far like this so I  need some more testing, hopefully later this afternoon I will be able to get some good time in with it. I also used his GFX VR settings he recommended with resolution in game set to 60%. Going to try upping to 70% and see how it does also.

Yes it is in a different spot - apparently the above was an early beta.

Click the right arrow - in graphics tab at the top where it says PC - click the right arrow and it will change from PC graphics settings to VR Graphics settings. Not a very intuitive place to put it - I did not know either at first .

Got it, thank you.

I will test out settings on my Rift S for occasional ultralight and Bleriot flights. My hope is not high. My rig seem inadequate.

And that means in my mind no rig at acceptable price is in current date, not worth the effort. My last computer lasted for 9 years with only gpu upgrades. I cannot let this software only make my newest last two

IMHO for a high resolution headset and this sim, using OpenXR for WMR is the way to go for Reprojection.

Anyone  know how to get fpsVR info to display in headset whilst flying in MSFS2020?

Does going in as developer mode show this? I know it shows frame rate in 2d but don’t know if it does in 2d. Apologies if you’ve already tried it.

Can't seem to resolve the flashing pink cockpit issue, guess I am looking at yet another uninstall/re-install.

Currently going through the process - thank goodness for Steam and the Cloud for saving my settings I have.

Edit: I just got an email from Comcast that I am about to exceed my data limit for the month of Dec.

First time I have ever seen one of those in all the years I have had them- guess 4 downloads of MSFS 2020 will do it LOL.

Uninstall and re-install did not fix it.

Craziest thing I have ever seen - plus there is a loud clicking noise in the cockpit too now. Very strange.

I don't know what else to try, I am at a loss. I will post over on their forums and see if anyone else has run across this.

Lucky you. I'm not even able to launch it. Black screen and than guess what ? Nothing.

I'm seek and tired of troubleshooting. Plain ridiculous.

OMG - I am such an idiot!

So after more troubleshooting ( uninstalled OpenXR) to no avail, I thought what the heck and started throwing switches on my Warthog throttle.

Got to the Pinky switch, flipped it and boom problem went away! Got to looking, and that pinky forward switch had somehow got assigned to toggle lights.

And apparently I had accidently moved it to the forward position without knowing, so what the thing was doing apparently is constantly toggling the cockpit lights on and off!!

All of this day spent, trying to figure out what the heck happened to my game. Augh!!!

:dash:

When all I really had to do, was move that pinky switch back to middle position and all would have been well.

I am relieved now though.

Lol thanks - note to self, do NOT assign lights to that pinky switch. Needs to be on a momentary switch.

I finally got an unlimited net package. A few months ago they sent me a letter saying "In order to improve our service, we're raising the cost of your net package by $3 a month." Oh yeah, well in order to improve the quality of my $3, I set the TV to the shopping network at 4K every night while I'm sleeping.  (Not really.)

Mind you, even though it say "unlimited", it also says "within reason" in the small print. I read something about one guy getting the stink eye at 4TB. That's 130GB a day, every day. That's an awful lot of usage.

Ahh so nice to have a full day ahead of me to relax now and actually start flying this sim.

Now maybe I can start to get into the weeds with it a bit.

Using OpenXR for WMR and set a resolution of 70% in the sim for my Reverb G2. Going to see how she does today. And if I can pass some training sessions in the 152

Hopefully I will have a day with zero issues now running this thing.

Well having spent a good part of the day flying VFR in the Cessna 152 across my state, I must say I am  highly impressed.

The sim is gorgeous in VR as well.

I used to fly FSX quite a bit back in the day before MS abandoned it, so it is nice to have a civilian flight sim again and one that supports VR.

So this one is going to be nice for some diversions from time to time. Of course IL-2 is my main go to and will get the bulk of my time.

MSFS2020 though will make for some nice relaxing days of flying from time to time.

It was somewhat convoluted to get set up proper for my Reverb G2 but I think I have it about right where I want it now.

Some pretty high graphics settings and smooth play utilizing Open XR for WMR.  I have Motion Smoothing off in Steam VR for this game, and use Motion Reprojection

on Automatic in Open XR.  Very pleased with the result.

That is watching 8K video for an hour an a half. Given that MS’ cloud data travels relatively little distance in your providers network, it is not a lot of data. It is really just Comcast being Comcast. They‘ll happily sell you a huge, unlimited forrest consisting on one tree.

What do you expect, off the IoW, Arthur? Try sunny Australia instead. ☹️

Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-Screenshot-20

Ngukurr, Northern Territory. Seems to have been doing this for the best part of a day already. It may clear later, but I'm not counting on it. Grounded for now.

I'm getting heartily sick of this tropical eternal-rain-season stuff, and may rethink my route a little. I'm heading for Sydney, and intended to sort of follow the Australian coast east then south, just taking a shortcut over the sticky-out bits. I might do better to head south first, and follow a route over the dry empty bits.

Been again having a blast flying around my state again today. Also flew around my home state some today as well. I moved up from the Cessna 152 to the Cessna 172. Enjoying the little more power for sure.

Going to have to start my airliner training here soon.

I reckon all the grief I had setting this flight sim up was probably worth it. Nice to be able now to just fly and relax.

I do that in DCS in choppers and yak 52 too. And GB with my U2. FS 2020 make you fly in familiar places, and you can see it is familiar, even up here where I live. Up in northern corner of the world

I downloaded the Yak today during their free trial, and sat in it to see what it is like in VR (beautiful, by the way). I didn't start it up since all the labels are in Russian. Dismayed to see just three training missions and nothing else that comes along with it. I want to want to buy it, but with MSFS giving you the whole world to fly in, and similar planes available or on the way, I'm not sure if ever do anything in the Yak in DCS if I had it permanently.

The Focke-Wulf p.149 just released for MSFS is very interesting to me, and may scratch that same itch. I may pick it up soon.

VR performance issues are the only thing that is keeping me away from MSFS at the moment, but for civilian simming I can't see DCS or GB holding my interest compared to MSFS if they ever sort those VR performance issues out.

I did buy it because I chatted with a guy owning one. He have a youtube compare video out btwSo I knew exactly what was inaccurate in ground handling, flying , power and such.

My facination about ww 2 trainers make me fly it a lot. It is just a magnificent plane

It's....okay.  I wasn't completely impressed at first as it's another converted MS FSX model and I didn't think the cockpit was as good as the Coronado stuff but it's growing on me.

It's very pleasant to fly in the short time I've had it and I think some of the instruments are not completely functional yet but overall, pretty good in my opinion and it'll get updated too.

Ironically,  this plane really comes alive for me in VR!

Despite initial misgivings I have to say I'm really enjoying this in VR atm:salute:
