First shot of no man's land.  This is where you will be spending most of your time.  The low res textures and simple trenches should make it super friendly for fps.  :good:

Did you guys see the video showing the G force effects?

Yeah, I posted in the discussions thread... what is that noise? Sounds like an old typewriter carriage being slammed back and forth.

Dunno, bit under-whelmed by that shot and no trench detail yet. The rest of the map looks so good so perhaps it's just early days or an fps optimisation thing as you suggest.

Hopefully won't be that low anyway!

Airfields, countryside and clouds look amazing though.

I thought was just the sound of the bloke kind of gasping for breath?

I just installed FC so this is great news! Hopefully the FFB stutter issue with MSFFB2 sticks and trackir will also be resolved soon. ? (I hope that's not asking too much. ?) Umm, campaigns? ?

This map will be the test for me... and yes, no mans land and the front lines are where we will be, and it's what will make or break it.

I'm hoping to see a living front line with artillery bombardments,... attacks taking place when there is a 'push' by either side going on,... observers jumping out of balloons when attacked, proper flak and not just ambient stuff going off etc!

Hopefully there will be shattered towns close to the front and not just the nice pretty stuff away from the lines... very happy the map is to be included in the update  ;)

This team has made a few very odd development decisions over the years, mixed in with all the good ones, of course, but ambient flak has to be the worst.

I quite liked the ambient flak.  It was frequently the only thing moving in the otherwise deserted career missions.

I cant wait to see a destroyed city in NML.

There's an RoF textures mod that does a pretty good NML. Loads of craters that are shadowed very well giving it a good 3D appearance.

I'll be interested to see how this compares..

My thing about it is there are so many accounts, pictures, descriptions and stories describing what no man's land looked like that this should be the easiest thing to model realistic.

The key for happiness is low expectations.

I don't expect you to agree, of course.

Me? Oh, You got me all wrong.

I'm very happy with everything they've done so far.

I'm especially happy that there's even a WW1 sim to move on to.

Maybe... we don't know how well it's sold and if it will even warrant another add on yet.

Oh do cheer up... you will not miss the lack of ambient flak, since there are no career missions!

Luckily there's (Sir?) Patrick Wilson. ?

And awesome online dynamic campaign system waiting to be tweaked for WW1 purposes, once the map arrives.

Welcome (back)!

Have you looked at this thread regarding MSFFB2 stutter?

I fixed 90% of my stutter issues through:

  • Running the game  in windowed mode (Fullscreen OFF)

  • Forcing Vsync ON in Nvidia Control Panel (Vsync OFF in-game)

  • Disabling any kind of overlay (Steam / Geforce Experience overlay OFF)

  • Changing update_freq in startup.cfg to 5.000000

    [KEY = force_feedback]
        amplitude = 1.00000
        enabled = 1
        force = 1.00000
        update_freq = 5.000000

By the way,

the compass in the S.E.5.a  seems wrong. It shows E when you fly to the west.

Please correct me if I am mistaken.

What we need is what we had in the “No Ambient Flak with Active Front” mod. It replaced the ambient flak with ambient shelling in NML. It really brought the front alive and made it seem like there was actually a war going on. S!

It occurs to me that whatever decision may be made about future FC development, the reasoning behind it will still be open to interpretation.

We could have three levels of shelling intensity, like for big offensives, not so big and quiet times. Even the option to have different levels of shelling in the same front.

And yes, please, no more ambient flak (or the option to disable it both online and single player).

Let's hope for the best with the map and let them enter the bug fixes stage.

Thanks bender. It's an interesting thread and I hope the devs address it. In the meantime, I've switched fullscreen off,  forced vsync and set smoothing to 100. It's much better than it was and it'll do for the moment. At least I've got FFB back. Wet noodle sticks aren't groovy. Anyway, I'm still feeling my way around and it's early days yet but so far FC has blown my mind a little bit. I hope it receives enough (well, a lot of) support to continue ROF's legacy and maybe just surpass it. The new Arras map will be a good start and hopefully get things kicking along. You can never have too many quality WW1 flight sims!

I just downloaded and I'm kind of going to hit the sack (my schedule is a bit off). Maybe others will post. I want to sit without haste to enjoy a take-off from an airfield ?

But I can advance that the Cappy we know is basically at the edge of the map, a couple squares from the end of it. So there will be no Cappy mission (or at least I don't think one can do a mission at the edge of the map). Which is a shame, since it is the airfield that Richthofen last took off, in a way closing a chapter in the Flying Circus history (which is ironic, since this is the name of the module). And those Cappy missions in ROF around the river were classic. One of the best maps we had.

I just hope they add more to it so that we can fly from there.

The map goes from Warfuse - Cappy in the south to just short of Ypres ("ghost river") in the north.

The locations of fields used in Cappy missions are all there, but area south of them ("stubby river") isn't.

From the map on the Quick Mission, the map ends just south of Cappy, so whoever is taking off from Cappy can't fly 5 minutes to the south that the map will end, which is weird. Plus the fact that you can't place important objectives just at the edge of it. Hence why I can't see how a mission builder can make anything out of it. Cappy is really squeezed into the map, almost out of it, which makes no sense given the name of the module.

I aligned with the river (quick job). The bottom of Flying Circus might line up with that river line from ROF, but it won't make a difference. Later I'll ckech if the map really ends up there.

Well they have always said it would be a small map for the first release to gauge interest.

Spring Cappy.

I'm pretty sure I saw warfufe-foucacourt road at the south edge of the map.

We can do Cappy Winter, Beaucamp, Bruay, and 1-2 more maps in Arras / Cambreais area that WG never explored :).

We have slightly bigger area than J5 map used for BA.

In Cappy winter you have to be carefull to not wander south though. And Beaucamp (EDIT: sorry, forgot the name, not Beaucamp, it is the Foucaucort mission) is impossible. The south river (that river that ended at the mud) had some heated battles and bombers used to go behind that river. Cappy Winter is sort of doable, but you have to warn people to keep north, or then to place objectives just near the river, which is a bit strange. Because if you place an objective at Warfusée or Foucaucort, you can't leave just 10km for people to manouver (isn't that 5km each small square?). Too tight of a spot.

The kill that Richthofen had near Hangard might even be out of the map.
