smoke flicker with gunfire/explosion

not sure if its a known issue, i can't seem to find a forum for it so far.

whenever there is smoke (static, bullets hitting the ground, explosion, etc.) and theres any type of gunfire, the smoke will flicker red/yellow like on fire but its not... although when i zoom in the effect isnt there.... i get light going through the smoke but its not the case here. even when i fire my own guns in the air they flicker too

anywho,.. some screenshots to help explain.

you'll notice tracers at my wingtip on the ground.  these are whats lighting it up

I can’t make any sense of your post as written, but if you’re talking about static smoke fading out, then back in - it’s just how those objects operate currently.

Ya sorry I didn’t know how to write it...

No I’m aware of the smoke fade in and out....

its every time I’m firing my guns, or anyone in that fact, any smoke on the map will flicker these colours..

the smoke at my wing tip is suppose to be grey, when I zoom in it goes to its grey colour.  When I go back to default FoV  it’s will flicker again.. only when there is gunfire..  and it’s not only this single smoke, it’s all the smoke on the map

Ill try and post a video later, just out of the house right now...

ok heres a very short clip of what i mean.. sorry if the audio is loud I'm not too savvy on loading up videosflashingsmoke.rar

It looks like the lighting engine is diffusing the light from the tracers through the smoke. That would be normal if the light from the tracers was much more intense, but the amount of light put out by a standard tracer round is rather small.

And it’s not even the smoke that’s near the firing guns.. it’s all smoke on map very weird

Try updating your graphics drivers. ?

I'm going to second this as a graphics driver issue. Or it could just be a profile issue.

If you have a custom setting for IL-2... save it or write it down and then remove it. Run it default and see if it still does it. If it does... time to reinstall the drivers or run an update.

I’m up to date on everything... and also no mods. Tried different graphic settings... no joy.

i fear a reinstall....

anywho, I suppose since I’m the only one who’s seen this it’s gotta be just me..

anywho thank you all :)

Ok, did a full reinstall of the game, did a fresh install of Nvidia drivers up to date... still getting this strange flashing effect whenever guns are fired...

You've been around for a while. I suppose this is a new issue? Did something change in you system when you started to get these flickerings?

How are temps in your graphic card? Fans rotating ok and no dust building up on them?

i didnt start noticing them until 3.0 patch to be honest.. but i thought it was just effect from surrounding gun fire,, ive been too focused on the damn clouds annoying me that   didnt really think too  much about it. then i noticed it when my guns were firing.. though it was odd.

My system is very clean, dust free.  cool temps.  there arent any artifacts during gameplay, frames are steady.  tried default graphics, extreme low(everything off)   and no change.  this is the only real graphic issue ive had

well i suppose ill hold out until the upcoming patch... maybe some magic will happen

aha!! i found a bug report for the very issue i am having and a good video with it

pretty much everytime any guns are fired this happens

Does it effect the look of the graphics at all?

I don’t really think it does. If it does it’s not recognizable, as the more FPS is a win for me . I was getting  like 42 FPS in the menu with the airplane in the hangar, now I’m getting 120fps. For the quick missions I was getting like 40-50 with some small studders and now I can see about 65-90:FPS while flying.

Sorry to resurrect a dormant thread but thanks for this! I upgraded to a new computer recently and this exact issue has been plaguing me for a while now.

Good work!
