Archie Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 First teaser, looks like it could be good! 7 1 1
56RAF_Roblex Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 (edited) It will probably be as crap as Red Tails but I will watch it anyway. I enjoyed the Russian series 'The Fighters' 'The Attackers' even though it was corny ? Edited January 14, 2021 by 56RAF_Roblex Had the wrong series title. 1
Sokol1 Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Like of CGI, planes are not zipping around like "Tie Fighter's" (a Hollywood standard for air combat movies).

A lot intersted According the (Google Translate) text on YouTube it says: http://litvyakfilm.ru official film website and fundraising for the project Teaser of the feature film about the legendary Soviet pilot Lydia Litvyak, who fought during the Great Patriotic War in the sky of Stalingrad and Donbass. The film is shot by the 28 Panfilov Film Studio. The planned release date is 2021. It seems to be a fundraising website: Friends. On this page there is a national fundraising campaign to finance a film about Lydia Litvyak. Any feasible contribution to a common cause brings us closer to a common goal! cardboard_killer Posted September 26, 2019 Posted September 26, 2019 Since I first read of her years ago, I always wondered why Hollywood didn't produce something on her. 1

For the same reason they hardly do any stories about the war from a Soviet perspective, unless it provides a chance for them to make the commies appear cartoonishly villainous. But tbh. I'm a bit skeptical as to what sort of engaging story could actually be told in a cinematic format about Litviak? It's hard to put her career into a neat Hollywood story arc, unless they heap on a whole lot of fictional stuff.

What biographical movie doesn't have a whole lot of fictional stuff. There's certainly an anti-communist angle (her father did disappear during a purge). But you could have a love story angle. And a female empowerment angle. And an anti-nazi angle. Really, within the frame work of what we actually know, there are a million angles you can take.
356thFS_Melonfish Posted September 27, 2019 Posted September 27, 2019 I reckon the CGI won't be awful on this one, i mean clearly current CGI producers in the states have NEVER seen a plane fly... but panfilov's 28 was a good watch, i'm looking forward to this.
Reggie_Mental Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 Cockpit drills were well researched. I guessed it was a Yak 1 before the external shot too.

And continues to do so today. Sen. McCarthy and his witch hunt sought to drive out anyone who had even a tangential connection to anything or anyone with a left wing or anti-fascist ideology. A film like Grapes of Wrath (1940) would never have been made by 1948. Hollywood saw some of it's best stars, screenwriters and directors get blacklisted. However, in the late 60's early 70's Hollywood produced some of it's most searing social dramas, because the politically the country was having serious doubts about it's course, especially as the Vietnam war raged on out of control and with no end in sight. Also the studios were broke and many of the stars took the parts for a share of box office take. Films like Klute, Midnight Cowboy, The Graduate, Serpico, and two of my all time favourites, Reds and The Great Waldo Pepper. The radical or liberal stance of these movies was often subtle and understated, but it is powerful. It was a brief interlude, and they were soon back to making the usual old formulaic 90 minute shit pellets for idiots. How many Police academy movies did we endure? How many more Fast and Furious Films? Will it ever stop? Edited October 1, 2019 by Reggie_Mental 1
Burdokva Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 (edited) Wondered in anyone here has heard about the Russian movie project about the "White Rose of Stalingrad", Liliya Litvyak? I recently stumbled across it by accident. The teaser in YouTube is brief, shows a cold start ignition procedure on a Yak-1, followed by some less than convincing few second of aerial combat... But then I saw the behind-the-scenes shorts. Thisnone clearly shows they are putting a lot of dedication to historical accuracy (English CC's available and YouTube does a good job with the translation): Building a real Yak-1 cockpit and fuselage The only good recent movies with WW2 aerial combat I've seen were Dunkerque and Eternal Zero. Red Tails was a horrid CGI and trope fest, there's an atrocious new Chinese movie with Bruce Willies about the bombing of Nanking... Haven't watched Midway but the trailer reminded me of Red Tails far too much. Hopefully this will be good... Edited March 24, 2020 by Burdokva
SCG_Tzigy Posted March 24, 2020 Posted March 24, 2020 have to check out Eternal Zero! Midway not great but better than RedTails by far... some of the flying looks pretty decent.. Dark Blue World my fav

56RAF_Roblex Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 (edited) The Russians themselves are no longer scared of telling the truth. Their TV series 'The Attackers' showed how pilots from rich families were treated like criminals and pilots who were shot down in enemy territory but managed to get home were treated like spies. It had a some corny combat scenes but the cockpit shots (back seat of a two seater?) and most landings & take-offs etc were real and one of the pilots is Lydia Litvyak. The Attackers - Episode 1. Russian TV Series. StarMedia. Military Drama. English Subtitles - YouTube There is also a series called 'The Night Swallows' about the Night Witches. Both have English subtitles.
