J37_Daedallus Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 Hi All A quick QMB in a skin inspired by Dennis the Menace. Hope you enjoy it. And if anyone can recommend some video editing software, I'd appreciate it. Daedallus 3
THERION Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 I like those skins too. The only thing I noticed: the wings are very glossy (and not only in this video btw.). Historically, they were covered with some canvas and lacquer, weren't they? Just my observation and no critics at all. 1
Raptorattacker Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 (edited) Yeah, they were 'sized' and then painted and lacquered. They generally ended up with a sort of 'diffused' sort of gloss. Thing is Daedellus is kinda just started skinning so I don't know what sort of grasp he's got about Alpha layers and their effects. Edited September 25, 2019 by Raptorattacker 1
=EXPEND=Capt_Yorkshire Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 cool plane , i always used read Dennis the Menace first then the bash street kids and the Beano comic cost 10p . good times 2

J37_Daedallus Posted September 25, 2019 Author Posted September 25, 2019 Thx for the comments chaps, as Rap says I only started skinning a couple of weeks ago and have no idea about alpha layers, I seem to have 2 choices - way too shiney or absolute matt. The metal bits look wrong when matt and the canvas looks wrong when it's shiney, so any advice appreciated on how to find something in the middle. Anybody remember Hotspur comic? Unfortunately my dad was a bit of a pratt, he argued if you liked comics you would never read books so he banned them from the house and would only allow Look and Learn. He was not impressed when I qualified as a graphic designer ?
Raptorattacker Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 Look and Learn? I used to love that (as well as all the Beano's and Dandy's and Whizzer and Chips and stuff. Hotspur I do remember but I was a LITTLE bit young for that one. Read plenty of 'em though. Me Great Uncle used to have a sort of tat shop in Blackburn and he used to get LOADS of second-hand comics in so I was in clover when I got dropped off there by me Grandma when she went shopping!! Alphas? If your template HAS an Alpha file then you pretty much use it like the colourfile but you're only dealing with 'shiny' or 'bright' which equates to 'light' or 'dark' in the file. To MAKE an Alpha template for a file that hasn't got a multi layer one, just convert the colourfile to Grayscale (or Greyscale in thse parts!) and manipulate to your heart's content. Total black ends up making the corresponding part in the finished article transparent so beware. Other than that it's really a case of 'rinse and repeat' until you get your own take on the reflections. I'll send you an example to show you what I mean...
