pexmo Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 Hi. We have been trying out the pwcg system, playing coop and we have two issues. Every time that we have flown a patrol the enemy keeps popping in at our altitude, real close to us. We thought that we were spotting bad and that they just got the jump on us, so we recorded the missions in tacview. And indeed. The enemy fighters spawn in just when we do see them, really close, and at our altitude, thus resulting in each engagement being the same type of furball each and every time. Is there a way to avoid this way of spawning in the intercepting AI? The second issue is that when the fight starts at the AI is always locked onto the host, the player that hosts the game. The give chase to him each time and the rest of us just try to defend him, again the same scenario each time. Is this normal for this campaign system?
PatrickAWlson Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 I can look into the spawning thing. Spawning due to multiple flights is a new thing. This could be a case where the trigger is not set properly. The AI is not influenced by PWCG. Your complaint has also registered in single player (PWCG and 1C campaign), with some players reporting this and others not. The conclusion is that there is nothing to make the AI go after the single player or host, except actions. The AI does get target fixated. It can lose track beyond 600 meters. If you dive into an enemy formation and engage in a furball it is likely that the whole AI formation will get fixated on you. If you let some of your AI squadron mates attack or use B&Z a bit more they tend to be less likely to fixate on you.
Juliu5 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 (edited) Yeah i also get the same AI problems using PWCG they just follow me no matter what , if i fly in a 5 or 6 man squadron they dont care about other AI aircraft they just only care to kill me , but playing IL-2 stock career the AI doesnt fixate onto me so much , they also fight other AI aircrafts.. i have no idea what causes this... but i always end up the whole enemy squadron fixating onto me and tailing me half of the map back to base while using PWCG. And enemy aircraft spawning around my squadron is something else.. one minute its all quiet and after 10 seconds 4 LaGGs 2 MIGs and like 6 I-16 spawn like 1km around us.. and we all die.. This is exactly why I stopped playing the stock career mode, the AI fixated on me. I only play PWCG campaigns now because I can run it in DS mode on my server and the AI does not fixate on me.
Juliu5 Posted September 24, 2019 Posted September 24, 2019 Whats a DS mode ? maybe it helps.. in PWCG AI fixate onto me too much..
pexmo Posted September 25, 2019 Author Posted September 25, 2019 Yeah so they do fix on the host right? Are we, the players maybe in different wings and they get a destroy mission on one wing? The hosts wing? Nice to hear that DS might help. The spawning though, it is still a killer for us. Not putting down your work at all Patrick. The system is a great effort, I just think that we hit a "bug" in it that we can not get around on our part. Thanks a lot for the fast reply.
PatrickAWlson Posted September 25, 2019 Posted September 25, 2019 Apologies if I am a bit skeptical, but I have a hard time imagining a server host setting that would affect AI. Always willing to concede that I might be wrong but it makes no technical sense at all. Somebody please zip up a campaign and a mission (.mission and .eng file) that produces these results. Please include information as to which persona you are flying as. Thanks.
