I have an Nvidia 1070 ti that has a base clock of 1607 mhz and goes to 1683 mhz in turbo mode. I have discovered that flying IL2 GB does not push the GPU into turbo mode, however, DCS World and the Heaven Benchmark easily push the speed to around 1800 mhz. So, am I right in assuming that IL2 is not taxing the GPU enough? I guess I could OC the card and try setting it at 1683 mhz to see if that improves the performance in IL2. Any thoughts, or ideas, from the GPU guru's ?

What display device are you using? You probably shouldn't be getting poor performance with your hardware.

Start by checking the GPU usage while playing Il-2 (GPU "3D" plot under "Performance" in Task Manager). If it's not close to 100% most of the time, one of the following is probably happening:

  1. The game isn't demanding enough to stress your system and it hits the FPS limit without any trouble
  2. You've encountered a CPU bottleneck

Since you have an i7-8700K, I wouldn't expect case 2 unless you're using VR or low monitor resolutions. Check your settings - disabling Target FPS and VSYNC should increase the load. Maybe you can try higher graphics settings.

There are a few other things that can cause weird boosting behaviour, but they're much less likely.

Thank you. I'll do some more playing around with the settings. I have a 1080p 60 mhz monitor that IL2 keeps at 60 fps. I was just trying to get rid of that micro stutter that happens every now and then. I may also consider going to a different monitor.

Insure in Nvidia Control Panel you have IL-2 power management set to: Prefer Maximum Performance.

It is. Doing some more testing with the game settings. Thanks.

Edit: OK, after playing around with the IL2 settings, and checking things on the GPU, I am happy to report that the GPU boost now kicks-in as would be expected. I'm not sure exactly what I did...but it is OK now. Thanks for the suggestions!

In 1080p and locked at 60Hz, I don't think you are using that card at full power.

The micro stutter is something else. Some settings the game doesn't like or something else that's going on in the bacground.

Maybe monitor your temperatures during game play to see of it's not some thermal issue.

A different monitor will make zero difference.
