Yogiflight Posted September 17, 2019 Posted September 17, 2019 My guess is, the next one will be one of the SUs. Which one is better for fighting the Tiger?

None of them are really suited for fighting the Tiger, both are self-propelled howitzers firing in a very curved trajectory and neither is really that accurate of a weapon. Both should be fairly effective at killing the Tiger, if they can manage to get a proper hit, and there the Su-152 obviously packs a lot more power and should blow anything to smithereens with a direct hit and the 152mm howitzer has slightly higher muzzle velocity and hence at least in theory a flatter trajectory than the 122mm (It also helps that the projectile is a lot heavier). However, it also has a much smaller ammo supply, probably slower reloading time and a slightly taller silhouette. In the end it really comes down to how the game's DM handles the 122mm HE ammo. IRL the IS-2 with its 122m long gun (which fired a weaker HE shell than the howitzer AFAIK) were known for being able to take out German heavies with a single HE shell. If we can reliably one-shot Tigers with the 122mm, I'd take the Su-122 every single time - double the ammunition, lower profile, faster reload and faster speed should compensate nicely for the slightly less effective armor, lower power of the gun and higher trajectory. If it can't reliably defeat the Tiger, I'd ditch it in faver of the Su-152, if we are hunting big cats. If the 152mm doesn't one-shot the Tiger pretty much every time.... well, let's just say there will be hell to pay. Edited September 18, 2019 by Finkeren
1CGS BlackSix Posted September 18, 2019 1CGS Posted September 18, 2019 In the real Prokhorovka battle the Soviet command used the Su-122s extremely mediocre, like ordinary tanks, along with the T-34s, and these self-propelled guns didn't bring any particular result. Also, AFAIK, Su-152s didn't participate in the tank battles and were used as ordinary artillery, unlike the northern flank of the Kursk Bulge. 1 1
Yogiflight Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 So the next tank will be the Su-122 for big game hunting?

Here you have an OP asking a very reasonable question here. My guess would be November/early December. SU-122 and German tank in October, SU-152 and German Tank in November/early December. Your response “ When they are ready” more applies when the devs are going to the Pacific. 1
