28Habit109 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Gents, Ladies, I am after some advice I have been away from this sim for some years. I have box sets of IL2 PF, IL2 FB, IL2 46 and Eastern Thunder. None of them would load onto my PC which runs Win7. So I downloaded IL 46 from Steam. Which runs great. I would like the Skins that the other sets offered although I intend to play on-line so the campaigns are not as important to me. I only loaded IL2 1946 last night and was immersed immediately using Hyperlobby. So here is the thing, Do I need any patches? and I seem to remember some good advice about Joystick set up. Finally I have TrackIR does it work with the IL2 series? Sorry I know I am being needy all help gratefully received. Even if you just point me in another direction, thanks, DaveB
28Habit109 Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 Thanks for the quick response. Steam seems to have hidden the location that it downloaded IL2 to so am struggling to find the files to download skins to. TrackIR is working but I feel like my nose is against the windshield and I only have view 90 left and 90 right. Can you recommend a good site for skins? I am working in the UAE and I have an appalling ping rate so am not sure how welcome I am going to be on the Multiplayer circuit! Thanks again DaveB
Stray Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) Hiya! great to see you back with 1946 pilots If you want to play on public servers, v 4.12.2 is a currnet version of the game. If you are interested in flying co-operative fun with co-op addicts, I recommend you get HSFX mod ( most use HSFX mod anyway ). Current HSFX mod version is 7.0.2 and it runs great with stock 4.12.2 You can get both, the mod and the skins you seek from mission4today.com. Thousands of skins there. In order to download anything from them, you gotta register with their site. If you have more questions, fire away. Edit: my 1946 is not from steam, but check this location for skin folders: C:/ Programs/Steam/steamapps/Il2 1946/Paintschemes/skins Edited April 4, 2014 by 9./JG54_Stray
28Habit109 Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 Gents, Thank you. I found the files within the Steam directory. Just need to sort out TrackIR and I will be fine. Then relearn to fight online! DaveB
Sokol1 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) Finally I have TrackIR does it work with the IL2 series? Yes, 6DOF support are added with official TD Patch 4.1.1. - no MOD needed. Sokol1 Edited April 4, 2014 by Sokol1
28Habit109 Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 Sokol1, Thank you. I am struggling tio not have the feeling that my nose is against the windscreen though. I cant find a key like in FSX to zoom out slightly.. Thanks again. DaveB
Bearcat Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 What stick do you use and do you use the profiling software?
28Habit109 Posted April 6, 2014 Author Posted April 6, 2014 I am using a Cyborg V.1 I know its very basic. The truth is gaming in the UAE is limited and it was the only Joystick I could find! I am not using any profiling software and am not sure what you mean. I think you mean the ability to set keys joystick buttons through a third party software. I had a SAITEC X45 years ago in the UK but wore it out!
Sokol1 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 (edited) Thank you. I am struggling tio not have the feeling that my nose is against the windscreen though. I cant find a key like in FSX to zoom out slightly.. In actual version, il-2'46 4.12.2 you can control FOV from 90 (far) to 30 (near) degrees, in increments of 5 degrees, not in progressive (ZOOM) way. Set keys for "Increase FOV" and "Decrease FOV" - this command require "type" the key, not press and hold. You can set this ZOOM command in 2 joystick button (*) and using the keymapper JoyToKey (or similar, Saitek software if available for this joys) set these buttons with repeat function to press the keys for ZOOM getting a "press and hold" control. (*) IMO - joystick buttons should be used to: Fire primary weapons - MG, cannon Control your view, PAN around, center view, zoom. Drop bombs, fire rockets, flaps, landing gear... are secondary controls, leave in keyboard, unless you have a HOTAS with "99" buttons available. Using JoyToKey and the pinky button of Cyborg V.1 as mode selector you can create profile for take off, air combat, ground attack... to maximize the usage of joystick buttons. I recommend JoyToKey because: Is simple to configure Can be started after game start Can be reconfigured during fly (Alt+Tab) Use low computer resourses Dont "hurt" your Windows like these manufacturer joystick software that use Net Framework and other M.$. "pests". Sokol1 Edited April 6, 2014 by Sokol1 1

You can assign a macro to the increase decrease FOV buttons so that they work in smooth increments .. Are you still in the UAE?
