simfan2015 Posted September 16, 2019 Posted September 16, 2019 Hi IL-2 experts, Many sims have some kind of Encyclopedia. In DCS we can e.g. select which module is shown on the main (menu) screen etc. IL-2 even goes beyond simply showing a 2D picture of plane or tank (the last flown/driven). However, is it somehow possible to, in-game, browse/zap through all available and/or personally bought planes, tanks ... To me, personally, it would be so handy to easily be able to compare, manipulate and/or visually enjoy (zoom?) a.o. different bf 109, fw 190 versions in such incredible IL-2 GB 3D detail. I don't understand why it should be necessary to first fly a mission with it to have it shown. Is there a way to easily select 3D-objects on the main screen, scan or from a list ? [Also, why is the 2d screen when the mission loads not more appropriate for a particular mission (tank shown when loading a spit mission...) ?] Thank You so much ! Kind regards, Stefaan 2
Tyberan Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 No. Alternative is a model viewer for skinners. I think it's still buried in the files somewhere
simfan2015 Posted September 18, 2019 Author Posted September 18, 2019 (edited) Thx, indeed, but being able to turn the plane around, zoom, change official/custom skins ? ... I am not (yet) a skinner/modder and check/adapt the planes in IL-2 missions before takeoff. But anyway, I do love the 3D hangar implementation as IL-2 GB has it now, IMHO, beats the DCS World selectable 2D-pics (in that regard) ... by miles. Edited September 18, 2019 by simfan2015
spitfirejoe Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 I love the IL-2 Hangar which we have now……..I just wish to be able to zoom in and turn the view in all axis directions in VR, like we can during flight in "normal mode".
danielprates Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 An encyclopedia just for the sake of seeing the planes is not a bad idea, but considering the amount of improvements still on the to-do list, its probably not in anyone's top requests. I would like though an easier, more complete access to aircraft specs and notes, maybe in the main menu. IIRC the shortest way currently is opening a QMB, chose a plane and read it from there. 1
simfan2015 Posted September 18, 2019 Author Posted September 18, 2019 @danielprates, Indeed, not a #1 request and this is surely not a shortcoming of sorts. I am pretty convinced the Devs will/may do a similar thing in due time, just as so much that came from these Devs (pleasantly) surprised the community with many other improvements.
Stoopy Posted September 18, 2019 Posted September 18, 2019 To Tyberan's point above, there is an outstanding, albeit separate, utility to select, view, rotate, and animate all IL2 aircraft along with loading/viewing any skins available (stock or custom). It's in the IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\bin\viewer folder. In a perfect world it would be integrated into the main application menu (along with the mission editor!) but...hindsight is 20-20 isn't it. ?

I remember the old-times sims, those viewers were always there as a rule. I specially liked the ones in naval sims, I could spend hours seeing the (by then) beautiful 3d models and reading the stats and descriptions. 1
