Is this possible?

I don't know if this is the right sub-forum but I'll try here.

 

Last night in multiplayer, I encountered a pilot who's name on the in-server TAB scoreboard was one thing but, when they used chat, their name in the chat log was a different name. I'm positive it was the same person.  I thought that your IL-2 account name was the same as your in-game name.   How is this possible?

I don't think it should be possible. Was the name that appeared in the chat log also on the Stats board? Or maybe underneath it in the 'lobby' section?

Yes, it was in the Stats board, not as a spectator.  The person was flying Blue team.  

1 name was on the scoreboard and a different one was in the chat but, I am 100% positive that both names were the same person.   For a few minutes we were the only 2 players on the server.  The person chatted to me, then left the server.  It couldn't have been anybody else.

Huh. Well, it certainly must be possible then, because it happened. I just don't know how. I've never seen a way to change the way you're seen in the chat.

Maybe someone changed their profile name while they were logged into the game.

That could  be a possibility.  There were 4 blue players on - all for the same squad + a couple other blues, vs. me .   All told 6 vs. 1 (typical blue).  He may have joined with a non-squad name then changed it without logging out of the game when he realized he didn't have his squad tag on.  The scoreboard still showed the name he originally logged in as. 

 

P.S.   6 v. 1 is ok.  I smoked 1 and elicited an insta-quit and winged his flight  leader hard enough to force him to crash on final approach. I landed safely without a scratch. 

          (No, said pilot in question was not 1 of the 2.)
