I wanted to share a story about the U-2VS in IL-2 multiplayer

Some of you may have already read this but I wanted to share a short story that I wrote about the U-2VS in IL-2 multiplayer. I know some folks weren't sure how much use the U-2VS would be and while it's utility in some circumstances is very limited, you can also have a lot of fun with it.

 

 

The other night I was flying with a small group on Combat Box. The server is primarily late war oriented but we saw U-2VS' on the list, a target that wasn't too far away, and decided that we'd get a small flight together and go try and take out the target. This was an extremely memorable flight featuring a very slow but scenic cruise to target, some calamity (and hilarity), and ultimately a fairly successful strike against a small target area.

 

 

The great thing about IL-2 is the variety of experiences. Fighter combat, level bombers, dive bombers, transports and aircraft like the U-2 which kind of exist in their own niche. Not really a transport and not really a fighter but absolutely a combat aircraft. I am not going to forget this flight and I thought I'd share it with everyone too.

I had something like this during a flight yesterday too with a friend on my Discord server. We flew out on the Action Efront and Tanks server.

We loaded up on bombs and rockets, and took to the skies to have fun with some of the German tanks.

Flying to target:

 

Found two Tigers in a column to attack.

 

While one of them stopped because we were harassing it, the other tank proceeded to the town.

I fired rockets at the tank hanging back, and got most of them close to target.

 

After I spent all of my bombs and rockets on the one Tank, I went to look for the other to find him sitting stationary in a field.

I went after him, and aligned my last bomb run:

 

It was right on target.

 

I had a 5 second bomb delay on, but it exploded instant on contact, destroying us both out instantly.

 

He even uploaded a video of the last bomb run:

 

 

 

It's a bit of a meme plane, but I've had nothing but good experiences with the U-2!

Definitely one of my favorite planes in IL-2.

That it is! But definitely good fun and I'm really quite glad that we have it. It's offering something a little different and off from the usual.

Those were mentioned as being a part of a future collector release. Should be fun ☺️
