Gora_ Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Referring to the Devs statement about cheating I would really like to know what is cheating and what is not. There are many questions... can we edit ini files by hand, can we use mods for vr, etc. It would be nice to have this knowledge before being banned. Thx.
jokerBR Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Thinking the same here. What if I use Reshade, for instance?
RedKestrel Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 For safety's sake, I'd be turning off ReShade and any other graphic mod and reverting any hand-made changes you made to the ini file until we get clarification one way or another. The EULA says "Unfairly affect gameplay", so the definition of unfairly here is the key point. Does ReShade give an unfair advantage? I don't think so, but my vote doesn't count.
Guest deleted@83466 Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 My gamma in the startup.cfg is set to 0.73. I also turned off bloom. If somebody in the "Sturmovik Security Bureau" doesn't like that, feel free to ban me.? Frankly, I think some of you guys are reading way too much into this. I really really doubt that your local graphics settings are the issue here or the genesis behind the announcement. If you are using lag switches, overriding server attributes, changing flight models, using invisible skins, and things of that nature, then I would be worried...Otherwise, just chill.
-SF-Disarray Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 While I largely agree, SeaSerpent, I can't blame people for being concerned here. The way they worded that announcement made it seem like there is quite the problem. In my not inconsiderable time in MP I have only ever seen one person I know for a fact was cheating and only ever been reasonably suspicious of two or three. So I have to wonder what's got the devs all hot and bothered in the MP player base. And with the wiggle room to be found in the EULA an argument for just about anything can be made. Asking for clarity seems reasonable in my opinion.

That is a cavalier attitude to be having when you got a good dime invested in this game, not to mention all the time flying. I know the odds of getting banned for benign things you mentioned above are slim, but then Trump got elected and i take nothing for granted any longer. Clarifying this to mean "packet modification, memory editing, code injection" and such. These are things are the classic MP game cheater go to areas. Graphic tinkering and zooms are the things a that fall in to client modification too, but do not change the games core mechanics in any way, only the way game presents them to the player. There is a HUGE gray area in the client modding and people are rightly worried.
