Preventing gun crews from running away

Any way to do this in the missions?

 

I want them to stand their ground and provide ambient fire all the way up until the gun is truly eliminated.  Its way too hard to tell if you're strafing a dead MG and completely wasting bullets or an active crewless MG with icons off.

 

I tried messing with the damage threshold and that did absolutely nothing.

 

OR is there a way to actually make the crew come back after a very short period of time and resume shooting?  That would be acceptable too.

I am pretty sure the crew *does* come back after a few minutes though I have never tried keeping the camera on an abandoned but healthy gun to check how long it takes.

Usually, when they run away,I make the decision quite easy for them, if they should return to the gun.;)

Can confirm this - had some nasty surprise coming back to a "unprotected target" just to find 50% of the AA alive again. First I suspected the mission designers to use some vengefully re-spawning loops. Checking the mission-file confirmed there was no re-spawn. Just my sloppy shooting driving the crew away but leaving the gun intact. With light MGs one has to aim accurately, not always a good idea to conserve cannons ammo.
