356thFS_Melonfish Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 A little difficult to describe, i'll post some screenshots later, but whilst i'm in work I thought i'd ask if anyone has come accross this issue. basically I run a medium rig and my native resolution is 1920 X 1080. solid 60fps flying about the place and no issues spotting things at distance (bar the current restrictions in game) or reading instrumentation etc. that is until a mission on Kota over the weekend, in this mission it's kuban and at sunrise, the light is bad, everything suddenly looked like it was running in a lower resolution than normal, I couldn't read my instruments until i zoomed in and planes out of my window were pixellated blocks. the previous mission a winter map had none of these issues on the server? So i tested on quick mission and i'm able to replicate the issue, in low light situations instead of just darkening the colour palette my pc seems to lower the resolution of things, perfectly fine during any other light situation but low light, even at night i can just whack on the cockpit lights or instrument lights and everything is readable. PC specs: I5 4690K 16gb 1800 mhz ram Asus GTX 970 4gb 24" 1080 monitor. I do have re-shade installed, however the first thing i did was disable/uninstall and test and i get the same results, i'm thinking it's either some setting on my pc or something in the game? has anyone ran across this before and is there a way round it at all? Thanks Pete
THERION Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 Hi, I've got more or less the same rig, but I never encountered this issue. OK, my monitor is a 27" but with the same screen resolution like you and I wear some reading glasses. I run the game on ULTRA with some tweaking in the game's graphic settings, like this: As you can see and might already know, the gamma correction cannot be set lower than 0.8 in the game. But you can do it directly by modifying the cfg-file of your game - I set it to 0.6 there, which also helps in spotting. But remember, when you change anything in your graphics settings in the game, gamma will be reset to the default minimum of 0.8. Therefore I created a shortcut of the cfg-file on my desktop, so I can modify it quickly and because sometimes I have to change the preset from ULTRA to HIGH, depending on which multiplayer server I'm going to fly - some of them have more detailed and heavier mission maps, so HIGH is performance wise better for me. I once used Reshade to optimize the appearance of the game, but my graphic card didn't like it very much, temp. was rising and GPU load was almost 100%, although I did not use to many filters in Reshade (actually there were only 3). So, uninstalled and forgotten. The NVIDIA control panel is also set globally to "Performance" (slider on the preview panel of NVIDIA). The only thing I changed, is the option "Prefer maximum performance" for the power management, which I defined in the program settings tab. Everything else is left as default (global settings). So, if you like, you can try with these settings - and let's hope, you can get rid of this strange behavior. Cheerio
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted August 27, 2019 Posted August 27, 2019 (edited) Make sure dynamic resoltuon factor is full (1.0) and target FPS is OFF. You are better lowering other settings instead of using say high preset with dynamic res 0.8 also as above il2 really requires the following for pretty much all players on Nvidia. To get good/max performance from IL2 there are a few things All Players MUST Do, (They are not really optional For Nvidia cards atleast) 1 - You Must Make sure your pc is running "Maximum power profile" in power Options. (Often called High Performance - best to turn off any power saving its not a laptop) 2 - You Must setup Nvidia Control panel Profile for Il2.exe specifically - (Global Profile is No Good for Performance and certain settings used in global can reduce gpu lifespan)3 - You Must Set Nvidia Profile for IL2.Exe To Use "Prefer Maximum Performance" Power Profile. (I Also Recommend the following options in IL2 Profile - Generic Pic.) NOTES: For your Lower end system (max pre rendered frames = 1 is now called "Low Latency mode - ON" ) (you can set Texture filtering - high performance) (turn on trilinear optimization & anisotropic sample optimization.) Spoiler Hope it helps. Happy Flying. Reshade works great with minimal fps hit and is a better anti Aliasing option than Ingame MSAA.. But DO NOT use new reshade 4.x, Download Reshade 3.0.8.183 Edited August 27, 2019 by =TBAS=Sschatten14
356thFS_Melonfish Posted August 27, 2019 Author Posted August 27, 2019 Found it, Dynamic Resolution factor, it was set to .5 i've bumped it back to 1 and the problem has disappeared. thank you chaps. i'll also try those other settings though my monitor isn't the best so i'll have to have a fiddle, i've found screen tearing without vsync on whilst looking around in opentrack.
=TBAS=Sshadow14 Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 yes you have to turn off ingame Vsync and turn on External Fast Sync in Nvidia control panel as shown above. Might be the 970 dont have it as i think tis newer GPU only im sorry
