Hey gang,

I am looking to get a gaming chair, tired of using this old office chair which is not very comfortable.

Would sure appreciate any recommendations!

Posted (edited)

I have a Maxnomic Classic Pro model. I originally got it because they're compatible with MonsterTech mounts (I never did get the mounts though).  The chair has a price tag, but I can tell it will last for many years. Their chairs are available in different sizes to fit your height/weight.

At first I regretted my purchase because any gaming session lasting longer than an hour would become extremely uncomfortable. After about a couple months I noticed I was no longer feeling any discomfort and realized the chair just needed to be broken in. Kind of like a good leather bicycle seat has to form to your sit bones. I now have zero complaints about the chair and am happy with my purchase.

I also like it because it looks professional, and not like a teenagers wet dream.

I bought the Bravo Red Mid-Sized Gaming Chair from Clutch Chairz last year and haven't regretted it. Great chair with adjustable armrests which is what I really needed.

Anything that has wheels with a „lock“ option, or you‘ll end up pushing yourself back when working the pedals ;)

Lol yeah my current chair has wheels without a lock, definitely will make sure of that.

Some chairs have a default size of wheel „plugs“, so you can also fit wheels from other brands, but you really have to make sure the size is the same.

Had to change my chairs default wheels to some with a lock, but different brand. The brand of my chair at that time did not offer wheels with a lock option.

The VKB T-Rudder pedals are a great choice to go with rolling chairs. I have a rolling chair on a wooden floor, and because of the up-down configuration of the T-Rudders, I have no issues keeping my chair in place.

Yes I am sure that is better, but I won't part with my Crosswinds anytime soon - so locking wheels for me is what I will need.

Would never change my crosswinds either.  So wheel locks especially on wooden floor is needed. Or a very thick mat (door mat or whatever) to stop you from moving the chair. I temporarily used an anti slip mat from a car until the wheels with lock arrived :)

I bought a car chair from the car scrap. Mounted it to some wooden frame and I have the best PC chair ever for less than 25 euro's.

Car chairs are made to sit on for a long time.

I hope you find whatever you need, but you should, at least, consider the car chair possibility.

Nice!

However I am not quite that innovative, but thanks much for the suggestion.

Still mulling over my choices.

Obutto R3volution works perfectly with MFG Crosswinds if you install Crosswinds with MFG width adjustment plates.

I know because I have this combination and there is no problem at all.

Hello fellow gamers. I'm looking for decent gaming chairs in a limited budget of $100 to $200. I usually game for about 4 to 5 hours everyday which is causing me back pain. My current chair is not a fancy one. I'm not even able to adjust height of it. Suggest me a chair that is reliable and comfortable which doesn't break my bank either.  btw what about homall chair. I was reading the review of it here https://www.reviewsed.com/homall-gaming-chair-review/and the features of the dedicated gaming chair is different from any office chair like Convenient dual fingertip locks system and a few others and this chair hai all such sort of features. but on the other hand mera and kinsal are few good names i heard

I did the same thing without wheels and added stands for my throttle, elbow support, joystick, and mouse.  Wife liked it so much I built one for her with wheels.  Very comfortable for hours and you can put washable seat covers on it.  Also the automotive lumbar support cushions work well with it.

I have to agree car chairs are unbeatable, no gaming chair even comes close when it comes to comfort. Why not adapt car chair technologies to design a proper gaming chair ? I bet it would be a bestseller.

If my recently purchased computer did not come with a free MSI gaming chair I would have looked pretty seriously at adapting a car seat.

The drivers seat from the Toyota 86 was going to be high on the list :)  but I never got around to pricing one.

The MSI gaming chair is reasonable but does not have anything over and above what other, somewhat cheaper, gaming chairs offer.

I used a "playseat" i bought on craigslist and modified it. Since it was finished i changed to a Virpil JS base for my warthog head, and VKB t-rudder pedals. The seat is from a dodge charger from a wrecking yard . it works really well and the best part it is fully adjustable / expandable

I have a Recaro seat from an old VW Golf GTi welded to the base of an office chair, plu 2 bass-shaker drivers mounted in the back of the seat, driven by a separate power amp with a cross-over for those low frequencies.

25 years ago, I designed and built my chair. From 12mm plywood.

Added a bass shaker butt kicker to it.

And I still use it, it's brilliant.

(The design is such that it allows me to tilt it backwards - kinda like a rocking chair - very cool with my feet on the rudder pedals ... )

While considering your options, before making a decision, sit on it for a while... ?

Why? I have had a DxRacer gaming chair for years, and it's been great.

I recommend Reclining gaming office chairs of Ficmax, this chair works great for me! I'm in the chair 6-8 hours a day for work and after a couple weeks I can tell the support provided is already making a difference in my posture as well as preventing those long day aches and pains. Assembly was quick, I was able to do it between conference calls!
I've not used the lumbar massage function as I don't have a USB socket behind me, but I am curious so I'll figure it out eventually! I have used the leg rest and while it is a bit short for my legs, it helps a lot! The only CON I can think of at the moment is a squeak I have not been able to track down yet - still worth it!
I am very pleased with this chair both for the price as well as the material/construction.

Hey Don, remember the chair I listed in the Hardware List thread on the other forum. It is currently on sale for $129. Excellent chair and they are the same factory that makes a large percentage of the $350+ gaming chairs which are almost exactly identical to their $129 model.

SUV captain's chair.  Been using this for 20 years.  Bolted to the top of the plywood frame.  Recently updated to Warthog HOTAS & MFD setup.  Two bass shakers installed inside the platform box.

Much thanks will check it out as I have yet to replace this ragged chair of mine lol.

I'm sat on the computer all day from 7am-6pm and could really do with something more supportive. My budget is around £200 for something decent. I'm not keen on faux leather. Ultimately for that price range i would hope for something that's good quality, will last a long time, and be comfortable.

I'm using this one:

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/810K0O9ly2L._AC_SL1500_.jpg

Nitro Concepts S300 on amazon.de

This white/black variant is what I have because it was the cheapest when I bought (and still is, I think). It's currently on an even better sale than what I managed to get (paid ~€220, now it's €207). Not sure about its availability in other regions, though. You can get it with faux leather, but that's precisely what I didn't want. The fabric they use on my version is very nice and pleasingly "rough" to the touch - like a good fabric car seat, I'd say. I was worried about the white turning ugly soon, but so far (three months in) it still looks like new ... and I do smoke at the PC.

I didn't even want to go "gaming" chair, but after having tried some of Ikea's current office chairs, I wasn't really happy with their comfort level (they used to be pretty good in the past) and started looking elsewhere. This one had lots and lots of positive reviews on amazon and was in a very attractive price-range, so I just took the plunge.

It comes with a lot of features I wanted, most importantly with "4D" adjustable armrests... they're rock solid with no wobble/flex and they're adjustable for height, can be rotated into three pre-set positions and the rests also slide forward and backwards. They're also padded and cushioned (prolly some sort of hard-ish memory foam). The whole chair is height-adjustable of course, the backrest can be laid nearly flat if you desire to sleep in the chair and it has a lockable rocking action.

Low points: The rocking lock doesn't completely lock the chair. If you lean back while locked, it'll still move a tiny bit before it stops ... it's a small thing that I don't even notice when I'm not flying, but it can be noticeable when I'm flying with my pedals set to stronger spring tension. This seems to be a general problem with this S300, since there are quite a few mentions of this behavior in customer reviews on amazon. Not a deal-breaker IMO, but worth mentioning.

Some people have complained that the "stand"? "foot"? (dunno the precise word in English, sorry, that five pointed star looking thingy) is supposedly too weak where the dampener sits and have reported that it broke, letting the dampener slump through and hit the floor. Didn't look flimsy to me when I assembled the chair, but ....

It's all plastic, not metal ... but that alone doesn't mean a lot IMO in our age of reinforced plastic components - and this particular piece seemed quite sturdy to me.

I'm 1.81m (5'11'') tall and 78 kg (172 lbs) and for me the chair is very comfortable, even after spending hours on the PC. Some people do warn that it might not be suitable for smaller persons - I let someone of around 1.60m height (5'2'' - 5'3'') sit in it and sure enough, the lowest position you can set the chair to wasn't low enough for them to sit 100% correctly (wrong knee-angle, etc). Another hint that this thing is a bit on the high side: With my VKB UCM-S mount set to its shortest length (and my desk sitting at 74cm height, 2cm higher than standard desk-height AFAIK), I still have to lower the chair down to its lowest possible position to be able to fly center-stick without risking damage to the family jewels.

I'd say anyone above 1.70m should be fine with the adjustment-range - below that it might get iffy.

I also think the seat-cushion needs a bit of break-in time - the foam they use is pretty hard and sturdy and probably very durable, but even it will flatten a tiny bit with a few weeks of use. For me, the chair was slightly less comfortable out of the box than it is now after about 3 months of daily use.

Overall I'm pretty happy with this chair, especially for the price. If I was handy with metal-working, I could probably fix the faulty rocking-lock... It think it's just that either the hole the locking lever slides in to lock the chair is a little too large or that the lever-arm itself is a little too small in diameter.

I use a gaming chair even though I am not a gamer because it is more comfortable than a task chair, especially for long sessions. I need the seat portion to support my legs all the way to my knees to distribute the load better. I find reclining chairs to be too short in the seat, and I get sore from sitting in them for extended periods, even the really expensive chairs. I also want a chair that can recline further than a task chair. This game chair has all the adjustments and gas shocks that expensive task chairs have but it can also fully recline and it is tall enough to support my head when reclining. It also has adjustable lumbar and neck support cushions. It isn't perfect though - the arm rests, which have the usual adjustments, also automatically slide forwards and backwards with your arms. I don't like this and have 3-D printed stoppers that I snap on the underside to prevent this motion. You might notice I have added a fancy arm rest on the right side - this is still experimental - not ideal yet. This chair was much less expensive than a comparable task chair.

Wait a minute!  Don't you want realism and immersion.  Your seat should be uncomfortable, like a WWII fighter.  Mine is.
