69th_Mobile_BBQ Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 I'm not sure what topic heading to put this under. Is it possible to use a multiplayer map as a single player mission? I know the maps get loaded to my IL-2 folder somewhere when I join a server and I've seen a few that have nice ground target placements or AI plane spawns that I'd like to practice with offline. If it is possible, how do I set it up in my game? Thanks S!
56RAF_Stickz Posted August 24, 2019 Posted August 24, 2019 (edited) yes - although you may like to ask the guy who wrote them first for politeness. Or perhaps the guy who wrote it might like you to ask first. An online dogfight mission gets saved into game location/data/multiplayer/dogfight Provided the mission file is there - you can then edit it to a single player, and I think add a plane for yourself to fly. Presumably you could also edit it to be a coop to give yourself a selection. If no mission file only msnbin is in there then you are stuck because you cannot edit it. You then resave it into your missions directory. (and I left all the original comments/author even though its only for my own use) However, whilst this has worked for me, I would not guarantee it. It will I think, save a snapshot as in the condition it was in when you enter. I am no expert in the editor, but I did succeed once or twice. Edited August 24, 2019 by 56RAF_Stickz spelling

This has simulated AI engagements that spawn when the player flies to a particular location. This zip includes a couple of different versions, one a Spitfire, one a 109, since in a single player mission there's no way to choose the plane you want. If you want to change the plane, just edit and re-save the mission. https://www.dropbox.com/s/e4brwmzu0bkkq3g/Operation-Paravane-Training-0.9.0.zip?dl=0 If you're interested, Combat Box is currently running a 4-map rotation each of which includes AI planes. This is because due to TAW and summer holidays our player counts are reduced, so we wanted to make sure the server had some action. We've used AI for that in a similar way to what you're looking for.

Thanks, Alonzo. Part of the reason I asked it that it seems to me that when AI are set into a scenario instead of QMB, they have more of a tendency to fly realistically and not do things like permanently getting stuck in a "stupid loop". The other part of the reason is that I was looking to be offline as I was really having a bad day with my boom and zoom attacks. I wanted to practice while sparing other players the unwitting participation in the creation of my new invention - The Rudder-pellor! (tm).
