von_Michelstamm Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) I was wondering why i was so much more efficient/deadly in a 109e vs 109f4 (eg. taking down five p40s in QMB in 6-11 mins vs 13-18 mins.) I assumed it was a convergence thing, but now my hunch is that it is due to the weapons themselves. Many more pilot kills and flaming engines, and fewer shots needed. I've read some comparisons between 151/15s and 151/20s, but nothing on the lowly FF. What's the explanation? maybe mg/FF have more AP rounds, therefore more pilot kills and engine damage as more rounds go through the plane until they hurt something? Minengeschoss don't currently do the damage they should, due to the way the explosions are modeled, i.e. kinetic damage instead of chemical damage, and plain-jane FF somehow functions differently? I know both types of 151 are treated as the same projectile just with different modifiers on velocity, etc... but what is mg/FF treated as? something else? Edited August 12, 2019 by von_Michelstamm
69TD_Hajo_Garlic Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 (edited) It may be because you have 2 cannons instead of 1. In my experience using 110s for a baseline (e has 2 ffms, g 2 151s default) the only difference is in fire rate and velocity. When shooting ground targets I’m almost 100% sure there is no damage difference and while harder to be sure with aircraft similar amounts seem to be required. Edited August 12, 2019 by Hajo_Garlic 1

It has more cannons.

Sometimes the answer is right in front of you but is to obvious to notice lol. iirc some aces like oeseau clung to their e’s to retain the twin cannon firepower Edited August 12, 2019 by Hajo_Garlic 1
