[CPC]Giledhil Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Hi, since I came back from holiday 1 week ago and got the new versions of WMR and SteamVR, I experience a weird thing with my game : Where I used to see Steam VR Home while the game was loading missions, the HMD now just stays on the previous screen and flickers until the mission is loaded. Is anyone else experiencing this, or have an idea how to fix it ? My setup : Odyssey+, 1060 6Gb, 4790K, W10
BraveSirRobin Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 I've seen the same thing and I'm not using VR.

piwakawaka Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 As a new player, I've noticed this too - the desktop render will show the loading screen, but the VR view is a very fast flickering between the previous screen (usually the briefing map) and the SteamVR "loading" screen (with mountainous lobby behind). It flickers at some high rate (maybe 10 Hertz?). It gives me a headache in seconds and I can still see it with my eyes closed... is there a fix or workaround?

Try using open composite as suggested here!
piwakawaka Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Thanks for the suggestion, although I wasn't able to get it to work - perhaps because I'm using a Quest over Oculus Link. Not sure if that's supported yet...

cellinsky Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 (edited) I see the same behavier and it makes me kind a sick. I have to dismount my headset until the mission starts. I had it before the patch but could just look to the side while loading and avoid the flickering panel. Im relatively new to the whole VR thing, and although its immersion factor is second to none, it amazes me how much workarounds still are needed to get there. Certainly not plugnplay, at least for sims. Having to install open source software to enjoy a game is ok, but should not be necassary. Hope the devs look into it. Edited July 18, 2020 by cellinsky
SCG_Fenris_Wolf Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 As far as I know it originally has been caused by a change in SteamVR in 2019 and will not be changed back by Valve. Now IL-2, as well as other games that have no dedicated room to place the player in while loading, have that engine limitation - which not easily fixed. It loads into the primary instance and doesn't pause rendering in the meantime, and doesn't have a secondary instance running (as in, a room specifically for the player to rest in while loading, like games like HLA have that have been devised with VR in mind from the start). The Developers are aware of the issue and have viewed and reviewed it, it's not trivial at all to fix. Valve itself keeps it like it is. So, I am afraid you need to get used to it and just pull the headset off or close your eyes.
Vortice Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 If you look at the fellow kneeling down in the far right hand corner of the hangar before clicking on the mission start button, and then wait for the Steam VR launch panel to appear over where he is located, you can then look fully forwards and you will not see any flickering while the mission is loading, you will just see the Steam VR "stars and mountains" environment until the mission briefing screen appears.

I cant see what is so hard to code since we allready have a perfect "readyroom" at hand. And it works when not loading. If ACC or Atomobilista can do it just perfect, i cant see devs struggling over this when they are abel to code advanced flight models and such. Not a rant, just saying.
